How Fenton Should Approach the Next Week

Created by: BoredWildFan
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 16, 2019
Published: Jun. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Fenton's To-Do List:
1) Trade Zucker to ARZ (or COL).
2) Ignore Leipold's calls and texts demanding the Wild make the playoffs next year.
3) Become self-aware that he doesn't have the personality to convince expensive UFAs to come to MN with the current roster.
3a) Realize any UFA that is willing to come here won't help.
4) Make deals with teams that are either cap-strapped (TB), or looking to free up space to sign free agents (FLA, EDM).
5) Don't screw-up the draft!
6) Don't piss off Spurgeon's agent.
7) Extend Spurgeon.
8) After all of the above is completed, circle back to Anders Lee and only sign him if he's willing to take a hometown discount.

3.
FLA
  1. 2019 1st round pick (TBL)

See if suter would waive to go to Chicago, and if parise would waive to go anywhere, and youth movement and get out of purgatory

I'd rather stay at #12 than take on Lucic's contract.

But then we're f***ed from cap recapture penalties if they retire early (which is likely). As much as it will suck in 3-4 years, we're stuck with them.

I don't agree with all of it (don't think Florida, Tampa, and Edmonton pay that high of prices to dump cap), but I'd love to move Zucker for 14 or 16 overall IF we do move him (which sounds likely). Who would you take at 8 and 12?

I'd be fine with almost any combination of players as long as one of them projects as a legit C. I'd only select Knight if its with the #16 pick.

Agreed. I'd hope for Dach or Zegras (Zegras is a long shot IMO) at 8 and hope for Newhook at 12. Knight at 12 seems like a really bad idea to me... Could be a great pick but history tells us taking a goalie in the 1st round is a pretty bad idea.

If you do this I think signing JEE for 6 years is a smart move. I also think the patient approach is smart, but the early half of the first round is probably hard to trade into while the clock is ticking on Parise and Suter - cause I think at the end of those contracts a rebuild is almost impossible to avoid. I think poking up the Gardiner tree could yield some fruit if you're looking at FA's, and if that could lead to you moving Brodin for more assets I think it's the right move, but I also know everyone doesn't agree with me on that subject
