the devils have 34 mil in cap space why would they trade the pick when they could sign marner AND keep the pick. that pick likely has more value than marner anyways

Yes the #1 pick holds a ton of value but Marner is a known entity, Jack Hughes has the potential to be like Marner but it's not a sure thing.

Hughes has way more value. Plus why would ownership want to pay 11 plus million when the could pay 3 max with bonuses. Jack is a sure thing. Plus the leafs need marner.
