I can see a trade like that going down, might need to throw a pick in or something but both picks have been injured/disappointing and would help fit team needs. Might need to give up a mid-round pick to make value more even.

No thanks. Morin wouldn't even be able to crack the AHL line-up for Edmonton, he'd be relegated to ECHL. The Oilers are looking for an actual player in return.

Edmonton's ask is pretty high if they're looking for an "actual player" in return. I know it's been reported that they're looking for a 3rd line forward in a deal, but that's their starting point in talks. Realistically they get a fringe NHL/AHL player with a little bit of upside. Can't justify getting a bonafide NHL player for Puljujarvi who isn't a bonafide NHL player.

Well we're talking about the NHL here and Edmonton doesn't exactly have an all world defense.

Morin isn't even that.

He's an AHL guy, but I'd say he tops out at a 7th d-man so not enough value alone for a deal to be made

I don't know how I could be more clear.

- Morin wouldn't make the Oilers NHL roster
- Morin is unlikely to make the Condors AHL roster
- Morin is an ECHL player in the Oilers organization

LHD depth chart looks something like this:

Klefbom
Nurse
Sekera
Russell
Jones
Lagesson
Samorukov
Morin
Lowe

I'm not sure he'd be ahead of Keegan Lowe actually, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt there.

Bottom line: Morin has LESS THAN ZERO VALUE to the Oilers, as he takes up a spot on the 50-man roster and possibly takes playing time away from a prospect with much greater upside. Again, Morin has NEGATIVE VALUE to the Oilers.

He's an AHL guy,

Not in the Oilers org. He isn't as good as Lagesson or Jones, and they won't take playing time away from highly touted Dmitri Samorukov for a 24-year-old guy who hasn't played a full season in several years and who has no upside.

It's not happening.

I didn't say the trade would happen or was fair value?

I just said that Morin is still at least a AHL d-man

And I'm saying he's NOT an AHL player in the Oilers organization. Too much depth, too many better - and younger - players ahead of him. He'd be in the ECHL or maybe 7th d-man in the AHL.

I've never seen such a great defensive group with such a severe case of goal light burn.

That's basically where Connor McDavid plays so you gotta watch.

Here's Bakersfield's LHD for next season with 2018-19 age and boxcars:

Caleb Jones, 21, AHL: 50, 6-23-29 +16
Lagesson, 22, AHL: 67, 8-19-27 +25
Samorukov, 19, OHL: 59, 10-35-45 +36 and beastmode in the playoffs: 24, 10-18-28 +18
Lowe, 25, AHL: 67, 0-20-20 +19

Morin is injured more often than not, but his career average per 67 games in the AHL is shows a player who won't be able to keep up with the guys listed above.

67, 3-14-17 +0

The fact that you think this guy has any value at all shows just how terrible you are at evaluating players. He's nearly 24 and has done NOTHING of value anywhere he's gone. It's not our fault that Philly's scouts drafted him at #11! laugh

Awe, you think AHL stats actually matter. Players with success in the AHL often do not have comparable success if any success at all in NHL. There's countless players in the AHL that score and cannot in the NHL. The players you care about so deeply can't even knock Brandon Manning and Kris Russell off the NHL roster.

We're talking about AHL players playing in the AHL, dummy. Why wouldn't AHL stats matter in the context of the AHL roster? How stupid are you anyhow?

Oh, and BTW Manning dressed for just 8 games after being sent down to the AHL, so these players DID knock him off the roster. But you didn't know that, obviously.

And Russell is a legitimate NHL defenseman, the prospects will supersede him when they're ready. But you clearly don't understand how development works because you think Morin is a valuable player; I'm not sure why I bother. shakes head

You say Morin has no value but say Kris Russell does. Morin is signed for 2 more years very cheaply. He tore his ACL and has essentially missed 2 seasons as a result. He's an effective player with a lot of potential when he's healthy. He doesn't put big offensive numbers that's not his game so there's no point in comparing him to Edmonton's AHL players. Apparently the Flyers should just trade Greg Carey and TJ Brennan for Pool Party.

Pool Party has done nothing to suggest he's an NHL player either. Just like that super star AHL defense that isn't better than Kris Russell.
