I think Nylander likely has more value than Pool party.

I don't watch buffalo enough, so Thompson may be better than I realize, but unless he is that isn't enough for stastny

Nylander gets it done IMO, but I don't think Sheary would be a target for EDM. EDM's already in cap trouble...adding $3M would be very hard for them.

Rumor on the price of poolparty is a third line forward. 3 mil isn't even that much.

I agree! Chia made a mess of that team though. $8M with 4+ players to sign is tough. Their plan would be to just stay as a non playoff team and see Sheary walk next year. I think (under the same rules you laid out...3rd line forward) their target would other ELCs...or even picks before cap hits/UFAs

Then send them someone from Rochester I guess. At least it would be an rfa more than likely.

I would rather keep Sheary and play him with at least a decent Center. Nylander for Puljujarvi makes sense to me. Both Black Sheep.

Note that I would not be opposed to Sheary either, just my preference.

You don't get a young, highly touted prospect for an older player that's a third line winger and overpaid. As much as Puljujarvi has struggled in Edmonton, he had good underlying numbers 2 seasons ago which says he can most definitely turn it around. An older 3rd line guy is far off in value.

The proposed trade of Puljujarvi for Nylander and a 4th is petty fair. Both players could benefit from a change of scenery and still have tons of skill to become top 6 wingers. The only change I can see if the 4th going to Buffalo instead, because it says Edmonton cap space as they'd have to re-sign Puljujarvi and Nylander has 2 years left on his ELC and because the entire hockey world knows that Edmonton has to trade Puljujarvi now after his trade demand, it brings his value down a bit.

That being said, realistically 1 for 1 of Puljujarvi for Nylander is the most likely deal. Both sides get a change of scenery and don't really lose or risk much.

$3M is a lot for a player that only produced well playing beside Crosby. Sheary is closer to a $2M player than a $3M one

1 mil difference is, again, not that big.

One player is disgruntled and that'll kill some value.

Nylander doesn't have much value as it is. He's struggled more than Puljujarvi has. Plus as I said a fair deal is Puljujarvi and a 4th for Nylander.. so Buffalo is getting more value there. Which is more than fair for a struggling prospect

I agree. While Puljujarvi has been more in the public spectrum, Nylander is probably in the exact same boat.

How is this possible? Have you even looked at their careers to date?

1. I doubt Edmonton does that, 2. I'm happy with the deal as is. I think Puljujarvi is better than Nylander today and has greater upside too, if we could pull this off I'd be happy.

Both played for crappy teams but at least Puljujarvi made the NHL squad all 3 years, Nylander didn't. Both played in the AHL (Nylander much more so), and Puljujarvi's scoring rate in that league is well above Nylanders. And they're the same age (actually Alex is 2 months older).

I agree that Puljujarvi has slightly performed better to this point, but that doesn't make him more valuable. His value may be at an all time low right now because of:
1) his performance
2) his contract status & Edmonton's cap situation (he's an RFA so they have to find the room to even re-sign him)
3) his disgruntled trade demand (not request, demand)

The whole league knows he wants out. Edmonton won't get fair value for him. I'd be willing to be good money that if all they add to send along with him is a late 4th round pick and they got back an equally as talented, similar ages player that still has 2 years on his ELC left, I think they'd highly consider that. Only other move is to try to move him with Lucic, but then they're almost guaranteed to lose the deal. This Buffalo idea at least gives them neutral value for him

Love the UFA acquisitions. That plus develop from within should be our strategy. Maybe a cheeky trade.

Yep, cheap but solid. Nothing flashy. Role players that can do their job consistently and aren't awful hockey players like all the vets we have now lol.

Everyone frothing over free agent acquisitions. Seldom does that pan out for anyone. When was the last time a huge free agent signing led to cups??? Or even close to. I am struggling to name one.
