If Kadri doesn't have more value than that, you have to keep him. I don't see Pearson helping Toronto very much. Manning was on waivers last year, if Toronto didn't want him then I don't think he's a good return for Brown.

Given how tight the cap is, it is not reasonable to expect upgrades this year, unless Marleau and Zaitsev are both moved without taking back salary. Maybe next year we will see upgrades.

Starting to think best route may be just to trade Marner, keep everyone else.

claiming him on waivers would have resulted in the leafs taking on cap last year, which would have pushed some of the bonus overages into this year, making the cap even tighter. A brown / manning trade is more valuable than just taking on manning.

Well Manning also sucks. And is more expensive. So Toronto LOSES cap space and takes on a worse player. Why on earth would anyone make that trade?
