Make it a forced arbitration signing if you aren't signed by October 1st or something the year after your ELC is up. I like that.

yup, that's better. But i would say no offer sheet until you have 5 years in the league, or are 24.

Or allow teams to sign guys for longer than 3 years right out of the draft if they chose. So you'd have two options say as a rookie. The team offers you a mandatory ELC for 3 years @ 950,000 and they offer you another deal of something like 6 years @ 3,000,000 (whatever the team wants to offer you basically) and you take your pick. ELC or best offer.

Remember when everyone thought Draisatl's contract was way too high when he signed it and that Edm were idiots for committing so much to a #2C?

Are you insinuating that Dubas is a moron? Because I think it's quite clear he's a heck of a lot smarter than all of us. Look where he is and look where we are. He's the General Manager of the third richest sports team in North America and we're all just a bunch of keyboard warriors. I'd say he must be a decently smart guy.

Watch some Oilers games, than you'll see why he's lazy. He is half the age of Jagr but plays the same game as the 44 year old does.

Oh, I watch him alright. I just don't see "lazy", nobody lazy ever put up points the way Leon does.

Would make things fun tho wouldn't it? It's kind of NFL style where guys sign massive deals right out of the draft.

Lazy defensively and hardly skates or moves in any of the 3 zones. He got his numbers last year because it was a lame duck season and all the Oilers were padding their stats meanwhile costing Talbot his job.

Simple and quick answer. Yes.

If you ask the inner circle of the NHL offices and media and the fans, the majority agree.

He is this generations version of JFJ.

I'm seeing people saying to sit his a$& in the press box, like Nylander until he agrees. but if both sides can't come to an agreement, sitting him like Nylander really isn't an option. Nylander's cap continually got higher the longer it took to sign him, but at least the leafs could manage it. They wouldn't be able to this upcoming season with Marner.

So it's sign him, let him sign elsewhere, or move him.

People using the "cap percentage" argument against Marner might makes sense to us (and because it would benefit leafs management, of course they would agree as well), but it's almost irrelevant when it comes to these negotiations, when clearly Dubas didn't do the same when giving Matthews's contract. Because from Marner's perspective, what did Matthews accomplish that warranted him to get $11.6mil AAV and he does not? Leafs argue Matthews is a Center, Marner isn't, so he's worth more. Marner can easily counter with he plays all situations (PP, 5v5, PK, last minute of game 7's *wink* *wink*), Matthews doesn't, so Marner is worth more. and it can go on, and on.

Bottom line is both Marner and the Leafs disagree on basically everything when it comes to his assessment and what he's worth. What they do agree on is that they both want him to stay. Now all we have to do is wait and see who gives in first. and from seeing that Dubas caved and gave Nylander, Matthews exactly what they wanted. Marner and his camp probably have full confidence that Dubas will cave for him as well. Gonna be a long summer imo for Marner and leafs nation.

111 to 67. That's the difference. Know what stat that is by chance?

look who's a smarty pants! Wanna bet Marner's camp can cherry pick a stat as good as you? You say goals. Marner can point at plenty of other places where he is far and above Matthews. Point is, if you play the comparing game Marner wants to play (comparing himself to Matthews) Dubas will lose.

and I'm not trying to say Marner is better than Matthews. both are vastly different players in their own right.

look, Marner in my mind should get $10-10.5mil. but with recent signings (Skinner). seeing Marner get "overpaid" by $1mil is not out of the normal, and plenty of teams would dream of having someone like Marner on their team and have zero issue giving him that extra $1mil. The fact that the leafs just can't afford to do that is not his problem. and again, from his perspective, Leafs did it to Nylander and Matthews, why not him?

Goals get paid for in this league. As you just pointed out, Skinner is a prime example. GOALS = $$$$$

That argument is a slippery slope mate! Marner can take a lot of credit for a lot of those goals (especially the 12 Matthews got on the PP)

I can guarantee you if Dubas uses your arguments....

Talbot cost himself his job by leading the league in goals allowed on the first shot.

I think Draisaitl's style of play and skating is leading people to think he's a lazy player, similar to comments I hear about Malkin. Consider this: Draisaitl led the league in TOI by a forward, at 1852:27. His TOI/gp was 2nd to McDavid at 22:35.

Nobody playing that many minutes - and playing them effectively - should be considered lazy.
