So now they don't need to get rid of him, just throw him on LTIR

Cally's health obviously comes first. I really hope he's okay.

But speaking in mere term of cap space, this is an absolute blessing for the Bolts

Hope he’s ok. But find it odd that this comes out as soon as their in a cap crisis...

If its true get ready for a lot of grief from other fan bases about how you guys "cheated" the system. Thats what everyone accused the hawks of. Hope Cally recovers.

Well... it's a better excuse than being allergic to your gear, I guess. Something like this didn't get caught by ANY of the Rangers or Lightning doctors until the year he was going to cost the team an asset? It smells just as fishy as when Chicago did it.

Hope he's fine going forward, but I think at least half of this (the part where they are just now finding out about it) is bogus.

That sucks I hope Callahan is ok. You never want to see any players career end with an injury.

One of the things that made the NHL fan base so good is that no matter what team a player was on if something bad happened he would receive the support of the entire NHL fan base. Over the about the last 5-10 years that has stopped being the case and it's really kind of sad. What's next are fans going to start to cheer when an opposing player is hurt on the ice?
I'm sorry but guys Like Callahan, Hossa (as CFman referenced), Zetterberg, Frazen (being a Wings fan they pop in to my head) and many more are they type of player that would continue to play for ever if the could. One last thing Callahan's buyout was $2.7M 1st year and $1.6M in 2nd year (I rounded up) so realistically does it make any sense to fake a career ending injury over that?

Bobby Lou will be next on the LTIR, it's funny how all these players who signed front loaded contracts which nose dive to 1 million dollars for the final seasons are ending up not honoring their contract. But I'm sure there is no collusion going on here.

Special case for Callahan being an unwanted contract.

Somehow it's just amazing that the only asset TB needed to get rid off just suddenly isn't capable of playing anymore...

Sad news though. I liked Callahan.

I think if you look hard enough at most of these hard-nose vets that have been taking a beating in the NHL for years on end, you'll be able to find something and say "oh! looks like you can't play no more!!"

Very convenient if you ask me....

Yeah... Robidas island is an actual thing, it seems...league wide, not just in Toronto.

Just hoping that this isn't one of those cases.

It is convenient but (I think) since Callahan was so close to winning a Cup, got to the finals twice, he was going to try and play this year, with the pain, since Tampa Bay is still considered a strong contender. But when the Lightning told him he was going to be traded/bought out he finally threw in the towel. So that way he gets his full salary, on LTIR, this year and gets to stay with/keep his family his family in Tampa Bay while he receives treatment/ rehabs. Instead of him getting bought out and having to sign with another contender and have to move his family/ live alone.

I think this is pretty spot on. It's kind of cap circumvention if you ask me... but if everyone does it, that means it's alright...right? sarcasm

Yeah, in my mind Callahan and TB knew he had "back pain", wink wink nudge nudge, but it was up to Callahan on how long he could play with the pain.

Plus respect to Callahan on playing threw what might be a career ending injury just for another shot at a Stanley Cup; hope he fully recovers.

I genuinely hope Callahan is alright, other then Corey Perry I wouldn't want to see anyone hurt.

But I'm not buying this BS, what a joke the league is for allowing this to go on.

Lupul wasn't lying.

Imagine thinking that a career ending disease for a guy that loves hockey, desperstely wanted to win a Cup and would still have signed a multi-millions contract at the end of next season - as he was reported he was not even thinking about retiring (so by leaving a a couple millions on the table) is a farce.
C'mon guys, you are better than this.
