I mean it makes sense for Sj minus their cap situation but Hank said he wanted to finish his career in NY last year when they started clearing house.

The Sharks don’t need an elite goaltender like Lundquist. What they need is team defense. Jones is an enigma. He either plays like a wall or can’t stop a beach ball from going in. He would be decent with some better team defense which was the Sharks’ major demise last season.

Also, Jones is younger than Lundquist. I also think Lundquist retires as a Ranger. I don’t see why all 3 teams involved do any of this.

The trade makes total sense for both sides, but Lundqvist has been steadfast he does not want to leave New York. Given time is ticking maybe he changes his mind but the only way this trade works is if it's Jones + for Lundqvist. Given the season Jones has had, he doesn't carry a ton of value, but I think he is still a good goaltender and would be fine for NYR at this stage of their evolution and costs $3m less than King Henrik.

I'm guessing the deal would need to look like this:

New York Rangers
Martin Jones
Alex Chmelevski
3rd Rd Pick (2020)

San Jose Sharks
Henrik Lundqvist
Rangers eat $1.5m

No thanks. You could have Hasek in his prime as the goalie for the Sharks and it wouldn't matter. It's their team defense strategies that is flawed. Fix that and Jones should have better stats.
