Meier Maybe Moving

Created by: Chapee44
Team: 2019-20 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2019
Published: Jun. 21, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Borgen goes down when Pilut is healthy. Thought about signing another D (Hunt or Girardi, but it would crowd the blueline with unwaivable players and likely make a trade necessary. It does leave us short a good PK D though.

My logic is that an offer sheet would likely net San Jose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. We give them a former 8th overall, 31st overall, and a 2nd the following year. Gets them more than an offer sheet and eases some of their summer stress. Plus they get to keep Pavelski ideally.

  1. Girgensons, Zemgus [RFA Rights]
  2. Hunwick, Matt
  3. Thompson, Tage
Additional Details:
Cheap options to help replenish the roster after cap relief plus Thompson for a top end prospect.

Meier is not going anywhere, he is priority number 1 after Karlsson. If anyone gets an offer sheet it will be Labanc.

You think with only 15 million in cap space and 8 vacancies on your roster you'll be able to give him 6 million? That leaves you 9 million for 7 players... I'm just saying that Dahlen is probably the only one in your system that you could hope to break camp... that means you're likely going over 1 million per year on the rest of your players...

LOL. Shows you know absolutely nothing about the sharks system. Dahlen is probably about 5th or 6th in line behind Chekhovich, Chmelevski, True, Suomela and Blichfeld. Meier will be signing a bridge deal as all of SJ’s homegrown stars have done from Couture to Pavelski, Hertl and Vlasic.

All those guys were effective in juniors but they haven't really touched the pro game yet (except chmelevski) I didn't know much about the system, you're right. Bridge deals are fast going extinct though. Better hope that bridge deal is signed by July 1 because otherwise I'd be beating down your door with an offer sheet that you won't want to match.

You are highly confident that he's signing a bridge deal when folks are offering him 6+ Mil? Theres a cap crunch coming and its not unexpected when you put more then 25Mil into 3 defensemen. They'll try to keep him sure but if there's an offer sheet coming this offseason, I think Meier is the best candidate. Unless they let all their UFAs walk except Thornton cause I can see him only eating about 3Mil, they need to ice more than just 6 studs.
