Not comfortable giving up 7 for an older guy. Buffalo needs that guy. Risto going the other way makes sense if both sides can get around 7 OA.

Buffalo is not moving a top 10 pick in this draft for a 32 year old Letang

No thank you. Maybe if Letang was 27 and not injury prone.

That would be Botterill's second fireable offense in two years.

I figured it was a bit of a stretch. Maybe Risto and 31st for Letang? I don't know if I like that too much for the Pens though given that 31st probably doesn't do much to contribute in the next couple years while their window is still open. I don't know how Alex Nylander has been tracking but maybe something around Risto and him? I dunno.

Sabres prolly just don't trade for Letang.

Letang just has that stigma of being in his early thirties but everyone thinks he is like 40. He has gone through the ringer. Injuries, health scares, etc. He is still a very good player and his contract isn't awful but I don't see the Sabres being interested in him unless they can get him for a good price.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't think there is a good fit here. He is a very good player still but these two teams don't make good trading partners for a player like Letang

Yeah that's fair. Personally I don't think the Pens should trade him unless it's an overpay. I don't see them actually getting better by trading him while this window is still open for them.

I might bite on both of those deals. Other Sabres fans will probably say no though.

Letang was 6th in Norris voting this year, Risto has been terrible (not his fault, should not be playing 25min/game yet). He is good for his offensive talent, which Letang offers and then some. He can't play in his own zone or defend for peanuts. Also, Picks aren't that important to the Penguins right now, while Kris Letang is. The other trades are fine. Hayden Fleury is a cheap and comparable roster player in JJ absence, so it's fine. I don't see ZAR signing to become a scratch, which makes me think Rust could be available since he is sort of roadblocked by Kahun, McCann, Guentzel and Kessel. Loved Simon-Bjugstad-Hornqvist, so I am glad you kept that in tact as well!

I agree with you about Letang. I just saw the Rossi attempt at journalism saying it's a possibility he's moved and decided to have some fun. I think the 7th OA in this draft would be fairly important to them because it seems like there's a chance the player they'd get there could contribute next year if not this year. I wasn't too sure about who would be the scratch in this regard. I figure it's either him or Blueger, neither of which really deserve it in my opinion. I wouldn't be opposed to trading Rust for the reasons you said, but if you do that is there a target? I guess if you don't do the Letang trade just a move for some more cap space wouldn't be the worst thing. Or forego the trade for Fleury and try to package Rust/Jarry for a better LHD?

Yea of course! I get it, I just almost threw up when I saw people try to act like Letang is washed. If the right package came by and it gave them a bump in cap space while also plugging a hole in the defense, then you have to consider it. I think there would be a lot of interest in Rust, as he should have scored 20g this year without his drought in the early season. He is also cost controlled and a great PK player, so I can see them getting a solid player/pick back. I don't have an issues with the team you assembled other than downgrading Letang. If they can get a player the same level of JJ for $2m less, they have to do it. Goes without saying they will have to find someone to take JJ contract, though. Will be an interesting night!

Very doubtful Letang waives for Buffalo, anyway.

Can't wait to see the next headline that Minnesota has entered the game and is offering Spurgeon, but the deal "could involve a couple more players, maybe even 1st round picks".

He's been checking the Sabres blog frequently. One poster mentions Subban and Buffalo and the next day "Buffalo interested in PK"
