They are similar players in terms of points (i think frolik is better 2 way-players), but derek ryan has another year on his contract at 3.3ish Mil whereas Frolik is a free agent at the end of this year so it frees up some cash.

Ryan played an incredibly important role all year last year, he is Peter's guy, when Monahan went down Ryan was the guy that filled in on the top line, he's an important piece. Frolik wants out, Calgary wants Frolik out.

Frolik also has a NTC and on a last year of a contract no one would accept a trade to Ottawa. I see what you are saying but in the case they do need cap space, ryan will be a good trade piece.

Tkachuk wont be getting a 9M contract, so theres that. Frolik can be traded to Florida (reunite with Coach Q) and there you'll get another 4M in cap relief. No need to trade Ryan he was pretty integral to the team's depth.

Hamonic wants to stay in western Canada, will likely be Brodie out.

Considering what we gave up to get Hamonic, I don't think we move him for just Kapanen. Perhaps in a package, but likely not in a one for one for a middle 6 winger. Ryan was pretty solid last year, and I actually want to see the Flames use him as the #3C next year over Jankowski. I think the Flames move Frolik or Jankowski before they ship out Ryan.

Fair! I was hesitant to move jankowski cause he is on a good contract and young, but that might also get a good return on the trade market
