Description
Stan Bowman's gotta go.

Complete defensemen like Byram don't grow on trees and complete centers like Turcotte are not in the hawks pipeline. Colorado is already winning the division for the next 10 seasons. Big power forwards are much easier to come by. Stan made a mistake.

Trading for Maatta made me think the hawks were going forward, why it wasn't Turcotte is the question I would love to have answered. You can't possibly tell me Dach has more upside than Turcotte..

I think everyone said that Dach has more upside than Turcotte. Turcotte is just more of a sure thing than Dach. If both reach their full potential, Dach will be the better player.

At least that's my takeaway from all the reports I've read.

Turcotte has much better foot speed than Dach, mixed with a well rounded 200 foot game.

Except that Dach has more upside than Turcotte. The reason Turcotte has been rated higher is because he consistently put it together for a full season. Dach only started to play to his potential towards the end of the WHL season and into the playoffs. If Dach continues to play like he did in the latter half of the year, he's a more than deserving pick at #3.

Dach was rated at 7 and 8 by most scouting reports whereas Turcotte was in the top 5 for most reports. At the end of all this debate, Byram should've been the pick anyway.

What? Dach is rated at a 2C, Turcotte a 1C. What are your reading in the last 90 days that suggests different? 6 to 12 months ago Dach was rated as a higher ceiling but after this year it was clear Turcotte has a lot more talent.

I heard the opposite. I'm a Kings fan, and all the reports that I'm reading from Kings sources say that Turcotte has "2C potential." Prior to the draft, I heard comparisons of Dach to Kopitar.

"Yannetti on media call - Turcotte is potential 2C, leads with compete, has intangibles, maybe a future captain, excellent skating, good first step, play making over scoring, does have secondary scoring ability, really good two way player, mature game, has physicality, accountable."

From Mark Yannetti, LA Kings scouting director after draft.

Read Eliteprospects....good source. Turcotte is being compared to Toews.

Kings have a steal. Read more then that....most are saying he's a 1C

Ok people, lets not panic. Dach is fine. The kid just grew 3 inches last year, let him catch up, build some muscles, condition his legs etc...
He is a full package, his skills set is amazing, his size is great, his shot is great and will improve. And the way kid talk and behaves suggests that he is mature and humble.
He was facing shutdown players every game and did fine.
He is a good choice and I disagree that his ceiling is low. I'm sure we will be all surprised at how quickly he can get to the lineup and perform.

His #1 defenseman projection comes from Craig Button, you know, the director of scouting from TSN? Watching Byram play he's much shiftier than Dach or Turcotte and he's a defenseman. He scored as many goals as Scott Niedermeyer in his draft year (26) and led the playoffs in points. How you can't pick someone who equaled Scott Niedermeyer is beyond me. He's an elite skater with a good active stick. He's NHL ready and I have watched them play, and it's really a night and day difference. Dach doesn't make sense, I just hope he proves me wrong.
