trade down to where? broberg went 8 and soderstrom went 11. It was clear that teams were looking for defense and i think both were high on Seider. Ive heard philly was thinking they could get him at 11. Holland worked with Detroits scouting staff all year, so he defiently had a good read on Seider. Seider is better than Broberg, better hockey sense, played against men as a 17 year old all season. Looked good at WC's playing against teams with a lot of NHLers. Jack Hughes and Kakko are the only other two players in the draft who played at the WC's. Not just going off points because Seider is not just an Offensive Dman but Hughes had 3 points in 7 games on a stacked team. Seider had 2 points in 5 games, just saying.

There was zero chatter from EDM on Sieder.. everyone knew it was going to be Broberg if he was there at 8. Pretty sure a trade with VAN could have worked. Sieder is also German which would have weaker pool of players to select from for said WC roster compared to Sweden. Once again Sieder played against men but in German league which is few steps down from SHL, not saying he won't be good NHL player just that half your argument fails to stick.

Just cause there wasn't chatter doesn't mean that Holland had no interest Seider. Dude these guys are general managers of NHL hockey teams for a reason if there was an opportunity to trade back and still get your guy Steve Y would have done it. You cant just assume VAN wanted to give up the quality assets it takes to trade up. Just like you can assume in Stevie's position that EDM has no interest in Seider because "chatter". All that matters is that he played in the WC an looked good against teams with a lot NHL players. He has better hockey sense than Broberg, many scouts have knocked Broberg for his hockey sense, Holland was even asked about it in his interview. A lot of the players in DEL are former NHL players or just guys that werent good enough for the NHL. im not comparing it to the SHL. Playing against men as a 17 year old Dman in that league is still impressive and is probably why he was able to look good at WC against those teams
