Very risky for Canucks but they needed goal scoring and could work out long term.

Canucks aren't making the playoffs without better wingers so this is a must do, being the Lightning they will turn mazanek into a vezina finalist

The first hurts for sure, but Mazanec ditched to go to the Czech league, so I doubt he signs. So a conditional first and definite 3rd for JT Miller sounds a bit less bad.

Don’t see why canucks give their first here but at least they get a pretty good player back, looking your way Dubas

I loved him when he played for New York. That’s a magical return considering they basically paid Namestnikov and a low second to get him.

Mazanec was a throw in. He's an AHL goalie at best. but that 1st rounder OUCH! Miller isnt cheap either, wouldve preferred they take on the Marleau contract and gain another 1st rather than give one up. Even in 2021 there is no guarantee the Canucks are in the playoffs and that 1st rounder isnt a lottery pick.

Tampa needs an ahl goalie and cap space. They get a first round pick aswell? Fantastic.

JT Miller is 26? Marleau is 40. So I don't see the comparison between this trade and the one Leafs pulled off. Tampa had to let go of a good player to be cap compliant.

Wtf Benning you dunce! Why did you give up a first when there is no guarantee that the nucks will make the playoffs in the next 2 seasons. Didn't you learn anything from the Ottawa trade?

Point I was trying to make was Vancouver also gave up their 2020 first round pick, but Vancouver got a good player back for it, were as Toronto got NOTHING, Vancouver trade is good, Toronto trade horrible

Mazanec has signed one year contract in Mountfield Hradec Králové, Czech extraliga. He didn't want to stay in America, he's coming back.

So Toronto pays a 2020 1st round pick to manage their cap crunch. Tampa Bay? They *receive* one. Astoundingly good trade by tampa Bay. I didn’t think a 3rd line winger getting paid over $5M would net that, if anything al all.

I like it from both sides. Miller is a type of player that the Canucks need, and they aren't overpaying a UFA to get him now. I honestly expect them to compete for a playoff spot next year, and Miller goes a long way to that. He's a great complement on a Pettersson line, and he's shown that he's incredibly productive with high end players. When he first got traded to Tampa, he was outstanding on a line with Stamkos and Kucherov IIRC.

Tampa needed the cap space, and kudos to them for getting really good value out of money that needed to be moved.

Miller is 26 I think were as Marleau is almost 40, however biggest difference is Tampa has a general manager, Toronto has a incompetent dumbass

But the Leafs traded Marleau .... not Miller .... the Leafs equivalent to this would be trading someone like Johnsson or Nylander for cap space .... not Marleau.

for NOTHING? TOR got Kapanen and Johnsson for it. Or about 60% of Marner. So its not nothing. Tor gave up 1st for acquiring Tavares, I mean any 3rd grader in Canadian school system could have told you that last year, that signing Tavares will cost you dearly. You will either lose Marner, or Kapanen or Jonhsson or 1st rounders etc... And yeah, you are not done.

I hated it at first glance but the MNTC is voided with this trade. The term and contract is very, very good. Miller could even be flipped in a few weeks and be worth a lot more than it cost the Canucks.
This trade looks pretty fair for both sides.

Great deal for TBL. Miller under performed w/ the Lightning, in my opinion. Only 13G on a super star team. He did not score at all in the 1st round vs. CBJ. The extra cap space makes this deal a big win for TBL-they now have the cap space to sign Point and are gonna need to free up even more money for Sergachev and Vas next summer.

Toronto got cap space. It was either giving up a good player (as Tampa did) or give up a 1st. Tampa just swung a good trade by giving up a player they didn't care enough about and got a 1st back. That's a great deal, but the situation for Toronto was way different with Marleau's age, contract and depreciating value. No team was taking the contract without getting something valuable back.

Name another trade for a one year cap dump a team gave up a first rounder ? 2020 is gonna be a crazy good draft and this dumbass gave away the first rounder.
This team isn’t winning anything with babs or this idiot Dubas in charge

I don't really like that they gave up a 1st for Miller he's only really a 20-25 goal scorer. I get they need a guy to do the dirty work before Podkolzin comes in but this was an overpay. They could have gotten away with giving up a 2nd instead of the 1st and a 4th because Tampa needs the cap space to sign Point this offseason
