Why buyout Loui at an exorbitant rate when you can probably dump him to a team that needs to hit floor for a couple years with no retainment at the cost of some picks?

A first was a worst-case. Vancouver can easily make the playoffs with some savvy moves and could probably just give up a 2nd and a 3rd at worst to dump Eriksson onto a team like Ottawa.

If it cost a 1st to move one year of Marleau, it's going to cost MORE, not less. Vancouver won't be willing to pay that price. Most likely it will be a swap of bad contracts.
