Leafs don't want pay Marner that much for a short term contract, they want to to sign him for 11.5M x 8 or 10M x 5

How ? There's no way they can afford $14.4M. Even with Marleau gone and Horton on LTIR they only have $19M in cap space with 16 players signed.

At this point I put the odds of Marner being back in Toronto at 50/50 & if someone makes a 4 first round pick offer sheet I put the odds at 80% Leafs don't match

It's why they traded marleau, they want to make sure they can match an offer sheet

Leafs don't match but those are such wildly optimistic returns to the Rangers on those trades. You're not getting cap space with those deals.

The AAV is only 12 million, it's 14.4 for compensation because it's averaged out over 5 years or something but it's 12 million against the cap

Even $12M is too much.

Those 1sts can be used to acquire current assets, like defense & the money in the bank gets you a top 6 forward +

They absolutely do not match, nor should they. The Rangers are still a rebuilding team that probably won't even make the playoffs. Those 4 1sts are unprotected.

I mean, do you think this lineup proposed is better than the Sabres? Zibinajed/Chytil or Eichel/Mittlestadt? Shattenkirk/Trouba or Ristolainen/Dahlin? Hutton had a better GAA and SV% than Lundqvist.
