leafs shouldn't match. if I'm the leafs I accept my situation and make the best of it. they don't NEED (key word NEED) Marner to win. they get out of cap hell with 2 first round picks for the next 4 years? I'd take that.
idk why you assume a cap of 84 million. that isn't happening. at best it was going to be 83.
now on to the islanders:
Galchenyuk is for lack of a better phrase... a complete disaster of a center. that third center needs to solid defensively for this system, and needs to be good on the dot to make up for how bad, Barzal is on the dot. chucky is neither. furthurmore, if you're getting marner, trading leddy for futures becomes more logical than trading for a now player. recoup some futures lost in the marner OS.
Staying on Marner i do not for the life of me understand why ppl keep putting Marner w Barzal. makes no sense. both barzal and marner basically will occupy the same areas in the offensive zone, and give you essentially the same type of play. if the isles get marner he needs to play with Nelson and lee (or replacement). also why would you want to move Eberle off of barzals line when they have such great chemistry?
Tom dundon will kill Waddell if he trades a pick for another D, so hickey to CAR seems unlikely
Like the Leo trade, that's a good fit
there is no way I'm giving Mayfield top 4 responsibilities. He's fine to play against the middle 6/bottom 6 but consistent top 6 match ups will expose his propensity to panic when the defensive coverage breaks down, propensity to get caught flat footed/stepping up at the wrong times, and his amazing ability to turn the puck over.
another reason you want to trade Leddy for futures in the scenario: expansion draft. Marner buts the club in a dangerous cap position and they will need to rid themselves of ladds contract. assuming ladd is able to play again and not finish his career on LTIR, they will need to move his cap hit. the best opportunity for them to do that is the expansion draft, which will require at least a 2nd in exchange (assuming trade ladds contract to them, and not trade a pick for them to pick Ladd in the expansion draft).
Finally there is no reason to buyout clutterbuck. it's a buyable contract but that fourth line needs to remain intact. if we want to get rid of his contract, the best move is a trade to a team that will buy him out, and then re-sign him.
