Good but not TOO Good

Description
This franchise is almost guaranteed to pick in the top 5 at the 2020 draft and I'm not looking to change that. I bulked up our D in order to keep us from being blown out of games and to give our forwards more opportunities to play outside of our own end. Vegas really needs to clear cap space to sign their talented youth.
Signed Ceci to a 1 year deal so that we can move him at the trade deadline as a rental which will probably get us the best return possible for him.
OVERpaying Wayne Simmons because that's what it would take for him to come here. PIT and others will come at him with offers around $4M.

Simmonds will sign with a contender, small raise.
Sens need 2 score good 1st round 4 2020 & add&subtract.

You think? These are both guys with loads of experience that step right into our top 4 and are signed to reasonable contracts for 3 seasons. Hell on the 3rd year we can part with them as rentals and likely recoup both the 2nd round picks.

Yes. Simmons would much rather sign with a contender which is why I was offering him higher pay than any other team would. But yes, if Pittsburgh can find a way to offer him $4M that's probably where he ends up.

For many reasons, I disagree. On the left we have Chabot (who is elite) and Wolanin (who is solid but should be paired with someone he can still learn from). Borowiecki is Borowiecki and Harpur is BAD. Brannstrom is not ready. Meanwhile our right side is a mess and about to get worse because DeMelo is UFA next summer and if he follows the trend of UFA Senators he's gone at deadline because he either won't resign or Ottawa won't pay him top 4 money even though they play him top 4 minutes. Thomson and Bernard-Docker are 2+ years away. And we ALL want Ceci gone, which can't happen anytime soon because of the last two things I listed. So YES I would happily trade two 2nd rounders in order to lock down our 2nd pairing for the next 3 seasons AND THEN recoup two 2nd rounders when we trade Ceci and DeMelo (if he won't resign) as rentals. Meanwhile Jaros and Brannstrom are playing together as the top line in Belleville for the year - building chemistry and being relied on in important situations. AND in the final year of Miller and McNabb's contract they'll be 29 and 31 year old UFAS and BOTH would easily fetch a pick at trade deadline for playoff teams looking for depth. Essentially this trade gets us MORE picks than we gave up to get them.
