Fire Shero

Created by: FireShero
Team: 2019-20 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2019
Published: Jun. 23, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is an unpopular opinion but Shero has just set the Devils back 3 years as contenders:

1.) Missed an opportunity to get assets for taking on Marleau's contract and buying him out
2.) Traded for the most polarizing player in the league to be a leader in a young locker room
3.) Traded a 2020 2nd so now limited offer sheet options, no Meiers/ Kapanen
4.) Decided to build around an aging, injury prone 28 year in Hall and an overpaid, 30, probable locker room cancer in Subban who also has back issues; instead of trading Hall and building a younger core.
5.) Every Dman outside of Greene is either a PP guy, undersized, or cannot play Defense Butcher/ Vatanen are all three
6.) Subban's contract is up in three years, Hischier/Hall/Bratt/ Zacha/Blackwood will have already got their raises, Hughes/ Smith entry contract will be up, Palmieri will need a new contract. So their might not be room to resign, plus Subban will want another big contract

So congrats Shero you ****ed over this team for 3 years of mediocrity and wasting Hughes's/ Smith's entry level contracts. Fire Shero.

Subban with this young core is so bad, he's a locker room cancer. Zajac Greene are the only Vets left to calm down clown Subban. Good luck tho

I wish people would at least admit to his skin color being a factor, but the discussion is always going to go "no it's not about that, he's just a selfish guy who doesn't care about the team".

You like everyone else has so little insight into what any NHL player does or does not do in a locker room. Everyone in Nashville seemed to really like him. I really like him. Montreal crumbled after he left.

So what's up? How does a sub-set of people come away with the idea that the smiling, charismatic character me and a lot of other people seem to see is somehow the exact opposite? I literally can't attribute this to anything other than racism when people are seeing a black guy being a successful NHL-player, good manager of his own brand and great contributor to his own community and deciding he's a bad guy. It doesn't have to be malicious intent, but until guys like Subban stops getting singled out for doing basically what some guy on every team does, I'm convinced racism isn't only the same, but probably stronger in this sport than any other. It sucks. I'm honestly just pissed that this has to be the topic of discussion when it should be about Subban as a player.

Some people just like to complain no matter how ridiculous they look doing it.

Who cares if Subban re-signs after 3 years or not, the Devils gave up scraps for 3 years of him anyway. Kapanen is going to be signed by Toronto and there's no way SJ wouldn't match a Meier offer sheet. Subban also brings media coverage and personality to a Devils team that has been living in the shadows for the past 10 years. The NHL is a profit oriented business and Subban is a MONEY MAKER for any team that owns him. He will help make the Devils popular again, sort of like what the Canes did with the Storm surge this year.

Great addition here by Shero that goes way beyond just on-ice play.

Make a long story short: bad day, don't like the trade then (still not a huge fan now) , went off/ overboard, my bad.

I agree that Subban is now the Devils best D-man, but I just feel it leaves the Devils with no physical/ defensively minded D-men. Also I know Shero traded for Subban to convince Hall to stay, but I feel Subban is to old when all the core/hopeful future core, outside of Hall, is under 24: Severson, Hischier, Hughes, Bratt, Zacha, Butcher, Smith, Blackwood, and Boqvist.

I am in the minority but I would have rather traded Hall and built around his return and the players mentioned above. I feel it was a year too soon since before the Devils ended the rebuild and now I just see them in a similar situation as the Wild, from a 2-3 years ago, where they are a good team but get bounced from the playoffs in the 1st/ 2nd round every year.

Why are you guys happy about it? Maybe I am just missing something.
