But perhaps with the Cap being a bit lower than anticipated and with teams strapped for cap space more than ever, he was worried about getting squeezed out of the market altogether. Any offer a) paying him an extra $100,000 (not insignificant except in the context of pro sports but maybe not insignificant to this player) and b) guaranteeing that (extra) money for two years was too attractive to pass on.
In turn Bruins get a veteran guy that can mentor folks in the locker room next season (after Chara is gone - presumably), and who they don’t mind sticking in the press box 75% of the time for fear of stunting their development.
