You're giving Barrie away for nothing, and then you're signing Marner/Rantanen/Panarin to 38% of the cap and subsequently screwing yourself over when Makar and Girard inevitably get raises.

By the time that happens in 3 years hopefully the win a cup if not oh well.

Can't look at it like that. Yeah, the window is definitely opening, if not open, right now. But if you just throw money around without thinking about it, then you get into a situation like Vegas or Nashville where you literally have to give away really good players for nothing. Take a look at the Subban trade. You just don't want that, especially with what's coming in Byram/Newhook/Kaut/Bowers/Timmins

I totally agree just thought it was awesome they could potentially do it for a little window they have to win before mackinnon contract is up cause he is getting 13+
