2020 conditional first. that's likely why there wasn't a deal. if it's mantha and a pick i'm pretty sure the deal would be done.

They definitely won't offer that. They aren't offering a 24yr old F still under team control at the end of the contract, plus a pick, for a pending UFA that nearing the dropoff age. Not for a rebuilding team, especially since it doesn't make them contenders.

By the team DET is ready to start adding on dmen in FA, Krug will be a FA.

Hard no from Detroit. Why give up an asset like Mantha when we could sign Krug next year if he goes to UFA. Doesn't seem like Boston will have the cap to sign him so he will likely be a UFA unless they can flip him somewhere else.

Lol, what makes you think that? B’s have no intention of letting him go unless they get an offer they can’t refuse. They will make every effort to extend him, and he likes Boston.

it definitely seems to hinge on if they think he will resign at a reasonable number. he seems to be the answer to their cap issues short term if they want to add something. its obviously a no on mantha. they cant move him for a guy who can flee in one season. if they didn't do that for trouba they sure wont do it for krug.

trouba dictated where he wanted to go because his wife is a doctor and wants to get her in the best market for her career as well. There were only 2 teams he was willing to go to. didnt matter the offer. all trouba had to do was tell the team he wasnt staying no matter what happened and a deal gets squashed.

Both Boston and Krug want to work out a long term deal. If Boston and Detroit were ever to do a trade around Krug, I imagine Boston would want a good package, one that would probably require DET to have an extension set in place once Krug is traded to them.

an extension seems the only way that Detroit would part with a couple picks and a prospect id guess for krug.

im not sure I agree with that. Shatty was coming off 4 straight years of 40+ points, which I know is less than krug but hes better in his own zone. id say shattys a good comparison as a player but Washington was a contender at the trade deadline and detroits a bottom 5 team rebuilding so unless there is some extension I cant see it and especially not for mantha.

Then Boston could ship Krug to another team for better assets and then if Krug wants to sign with DET in the off-season he can. If Boston moves Krug, they have more options than just DET.

yeah I think hes the one who gets moved. Not that it wouldn't effect them but its seems easier to move krug than krejci or backes at this point.

It would take a perfect storm to trade Krug...

-Krug would need to refuse to re-sign
-Boston would need to be out of the playoff picture
-Someone would have to give up a significant package

^you'd need all that to happen unless someone comes in with a can't say no offer
