  1. Clarkson, David
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Habs take on LTIR cap dump for a price.

    2.
    MTL
    1. Puljujärvi, Jesse [RFA Rights]
    Additional Details:
I think Puljujarvi could thrive next to KK this year and now his value has never been lower. This would be a low risk - high reward addition and a no brainer IMO
    EDM
Add whatever is necessary that makes sense.
      3.
      MTL
      1. Scandella, Marco
      Additional Details:
I think Scandella to MTL makes so much sense and the cost wouldn't be a lot as Buffalo would be getting mainly cap space in return. He only has 1 year left, has played top 4 minutes in the past and has connections to Montreal being born here and Sergio Momesso is his uncle.

        Lol

IMO the return would depend on two things. Either Buf takes back the better draft pick but also takes on a contract (MTL would need to liberate one of their excess contracts - one that could be easily buried) or the return is lesser but take on no extra contract. If you say a 4th round pick, I'd counter you'd have to take on Peca's contract also. If not the pick would only be a 5th straight up.

@F50marco When did you leave the GM Game? I don't remember you leaving but you haven't been in it since like v2 or something.

Literally direct quote from presser today

“McPhee mentioned that Clarkson's contract isn't the problem most people make it out to be. Basically said it doesn't matter and they don't have to move it.”

For Puljujarvi, the only option on the habs roster that makes sense for Edmonton is Armia. Otherwise, they will look elsewhere. They will most likely look to trade him for another young winger with high draft pedigree who has never quite lives up to the hype, or let him spend the year in Finland.

As opposed to: "I am telling everyone here and now that getting rid of Clarkson's contract would make things easier for me so there is incentive for me to do it thus removing any negotiating power I may have in any potential deal for him"? lol

I do agree its not as bad some people make it out to be (some people made it sound like a 1st would need to be involved) but if you think the GM is going to tell you the truth about his cap situation in a presser, you're being duped. Its all part of the power of negotiation and perception with other GM's and agents. Poker faces. Poker faces everywhere. That's why they get paid the big bucks. GM's use the media as much as players's agents do to try and get an upper hand in negotiation for their clients.

I will say this though, I haven't been able to confirm without a doubt 100% the gravity of having an LTIR contract on the books while already being heavily above the salary cap during the off season. I do know one thing, if it had 0% impact, Vegas wouldn't even be talking about moving him. There would be no incentive what so ever so why bring it up at all? There is some incentive to move that contract for Vegas, I just can't quantify that exact value based on the knowledge of the CBA I have.

Is Scandella the sexy name that everyone is talking about? No. But then again look at what the our consensus cost it would take to get him... not much.... Yeah sure I'd love Gardiner, but not at 7-8M a year. Sure i would love Ghost but not for a 2020 1st, Shaw and a prospect. Sure i'd love Leddy but not necessarily at the cost of a guy like Tatar.

Scandella isn't the best player Montreal could acquire. He's just a low risk and but potentially high reward option.

I'm not sure Oilers would entertain letting him play in Finland and just keep him. Eventually they'll lose his rights and could get nothing for him. There's also the potential for him not playing that well in Finland and being a complete bust in which they'd get absolutely nothing for him.

I have heard from many sources, some well known ones like BMac/Dregs to lesser known ones that the best Oilers could hope for is a late 2nd-3rd rounder or a prospect like Poolparty who hasn't lived up to their 1st round hype yet either. (Someone within the same age range though)

But in all honesty and I may be the outlier here but I would entertain the Armia scenario. Only problem is he has strong chemistry with KK being that they are both from the same town in Finland.
