Description
Trade with Toronto for Nylander is just a place holder....point being I think the Hawks have to trade Gustaffson (even if they re-sign him next off-season they won't be able to protect him in the expansion draft), and they need a scoring RW. Since the cap is lower than expected, and the Hawks have some cap room to play with they may be able to get a quality return on a trade. Toronto fans....don't go nuts....haha

Hawks need Right D also....so Murphy isn't going anywhere..I don't think Boqvist makes the team, so that would leave them with only Seabrook.....no - not happening....

Gus can play right, but I dont think hes the best for for TOR. The leafs have Reilly. Vegas or MTL is my bet for Gus. MTL certainly hasn't addressed their pick moving dman yet...their single biggest need this off season.

Hmm, Tatar? Wonder if the Hawks could do this trade and get MTL to keep some of the salary....perhaps enabling them to also get a FA. I think Tatar is an underpayment for Gustafsson but with retained salary it could work.

Absolutely right. Only package I can see with the Black Hawks is Murphy, a first and a forward prospect, but I don't see anyone in your system that appeals to me.

You guys all know that Nylander was pretty useless last year, right? His trade value has declined since his hold out. He's worth a 1st round pick and thats about it. WOW, Toronto fans over value their players.....also, please read the description...

Hey man no need to burn our prospects like that. Would connor brown and a third/fourth be fair in your opinion? Third/second, if hawks retain a million or so of Murphy's contract?

Toronto would leap at the chance to get Murphy for Brown and a third. In my honest opinion, I think you could get Kapanen for Murphy. I wonder if anyone's posted that idea yet. The objection is that it seriously weakens Chicago's right side.

I doubt the Chicago brass is dumb enough to trade Murphy.....I know he isn't a fan favorite, but for people who actually know hockey they understand his value. A RD with great advanced stats, young and a good contract. He is more valuable than Gustaffsson who just put up 60 points...

Hawks are fine with D. Jokiharju is better then both Seabrook and Murphy, he was only played in the AHL last season so he could be the guy and play in any and all situations, not sure on Boqvist but he’ll get a shot. They also are intending on signing Michell who’s another RHD of the future. I think they’re set with good young RHD, so Murphy might not be needed.

Jokiharju isn't really a right defenceman...and I don't agree that he is better than Murphy...I do see them trading one of them though...they can't protect both of them during the expansion draft.

Umm Jokiharju is a RHD btw. The darker blue side shows what handed they are. Jokiharju is more offensive then Murphy, and is younger too. I’d be interested to know why you think Murphy is better?

Murphy is better suited to play the forwards in the central moving forward. Jokiharju is good, and yes potentially better offensively...but he isn't defensively and doesn't have the size. The Central division is full of size outside of Chicago, especially at forward. Conner is a better skater relatively also (considering his size), and has a much better reach...Murphy also seems to be much more active without the puck....in my opinion he is the better overall defenceman.

Murphy is also 28 and been in the league for 8 years now. Jokiharju just turned 21, Ellis is one of the smallest defenseman in the NHL and his size isn’t holding him back any. Give Joki some time and he’ll show that hes a top 4 d by the end of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Matta and Jokiharju as a pair and CDH with Murphy as Chicago’s top 4 to end the year.

I agree Murphy might be better right now, but I also don’t see Murphy getting much better as I see the younger Jokiharju getting better with a full year of NHL experience under his belt and getting to work with the likes of Duncan Keith and Brent seabrook who were both great a few years ago and can pass on a lot of the things they learned to the younger players.

Personally I think Chicago is a few years away from being contenders again, but they could also surprise a few people and jump up the standings this year, and if they don’t they’re headed in the right direction to contending again.

Ellis's advanced stats are good, but they aren't excellent...which suggests much of his success has to do with whom he's played with and that he wouldn't see as much success outside of the powerhouse top 4 Nashville always throws out there. Not sure he's be in any discussions if he played for the Senators.
I hope you are right though....only problem is your argument is predicated on Jokiharju actually getting better...if anything last year, he got worse...and didn't dominate in the world Jr's or in Rockford....I'm actually fairly worried he may be a bust as a 1st rounder...BTW, I also think it was a horrible mistake playing him at all last year...he now has to be protected in the expansion draft...

Jokiharju won 2 gold medals last year. World JRs and was the only roster player on team Finland for the world championships with NHL experience. Now that I know you’re an advanced stat junkie I can see why you think Murphy is a top pair dman.
