New era 1 Trade with EDM

Created by: arafay
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 24, 2019
Published: Jun. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
New era in the forwards with ESL defining this franchise for at least the next few years

Wheeler and Little get more of a complimentary but still important role with a young star in connor

Roslovic develops as a C and future replacement for Little. Hopefully with a veteran presence in copp that transition will be easy. Pujujarvi should develop nicely with hardworking linemates in copp and roslovic.

Finally, Lowry takes a mentor role with Appleton and vesalainen. Appleton is just a more offensive tanev and hopefully vesalainen can develop nicely. Eventually, vesalainen would be switched with copp but that might have to wait up to more than a year.

Maurice still keeps his defensive line in the form of the 2nd line while the 4th could develop into one as well. I would like to see the 3rd and 4th get equal minutes to start the season and see who preforms better.

I would hope for some growth from pionk but honestly, don't expect it.

Personally I’m pretty scared of that 2nd pairing. Last year they were okay as a 3rd pairing with sheltered minutes, but I don’t think they as a pair would be ready for more game time. I would rather have Morrissey and Buff each carrying a pair, with Morrissey carrying Poolman/Pionk and Buff carrying Niku. I also think Chiarot will ask for too much money like $3 million+, and I would rather either use Kulikov or re-sign Beaulieu. I know this forces Niku to play on the left, but I think it should be fine.

That's a very well-structured team that even minus Trouba and Myers could contend in the division. Entirely off the subject, why the hell do I keep seeing constructions throwing Nikolaj Ehlers around? Anyone who would trade him even-up for his draft-mates Virtanen or Ritchie is cuckoo, and I get to watch Ritchie 82 times a year.

Niku can play either side but pionk gives way too much space off the rush to play with JoMo. I disagree with chiarot-buff. By the time Buff was coming back, that pairing was playing just as many minutes as Kulikov-myers

Beaulieu actually looked good this year. When paired with Trouba, he looked like a very steady defensemen. I really would like to re-sign him.

Oh sorry I know Chiarot-Buff was good, I was talking about Chiarot-Niku.

Cause people only see the 37 points last year and the $6 million contract. They think that since he was bad last year, they can trade scraps for him. They don’t realize he got injured, and didn’t look the same for the rest of the year.

I'm cool with this, probably need to add a 2nd round pick to get Pulujarvi but if thats all it took I'd do it.

I'd rather they just go with what they got and if they suck they suck, please no dumb trades to dump salary that are more asset costly then they're worth and please no trading to fill a hole by creating a hole somewhere else in the lineup.

Blow it up a bit or stick with what you got.

They also don't know he spends most of his time on a line that doesn't work for any guy on it.

Ah yes Ehlers-Little-Laine, the line that never has worked and never will

And I forgot another future Hall-of-Famer, Michael Dal Colle.

Simple question here:

Is everyone just overlooking the fact that this trade makes less than zero sense from an Oilers point of view from either a hockey or business standpoint?

They get a good middle six winger (need) and a rd prospect with real potential if he can stay healthy

I could add a pick but they aren’t getting a lot more for puljujarvi. Perreault is worth a 3rd at least (while taking the jets’ cap issues into account and green is a good prospect

This could not be a more incorrect assessment of Edmonton's needs.

A 31 year old 3rd liner making north of $4 mil with term has precious little value to Edmonton. All kinds of Perreault-like players available on the UFA market, although that really should be the way the Oilers go, anyway, since our biggest need is ELC or sub-million players who can perform at the NHL level

The Oilers greatest strength is in blueline prospects, so Green doesn't exactly move the needle, either.

Finally, Jesse's value is at an all-time low. Smart GMs do not move 21 year-old 4th overall picks at this time. His agent can pout, whine, threaten, and stomp his feet all he wants, but Holland doesn't have to give in (see Athanasiou, Andreas as a case study on how Holland handled a similar situation).

Now, even if it does come to that, there are a ton of other teams who can pony up more. For example, Carolina has been rumored to have offered Julie Gauthier, who absolutely fits the Oilers needs a whole pile better than this.

To summarize: an aging, 30 point winger to a cap-strapped team and an okay defensive prospect added to a plethora of defensive prospects does nothing at all for the Oilers.

Hardest of passes on this deal.
