Gusev isn't a Group 2 RFA,. He falls under a special category of RFA's that don't have a group # [CBA 10.2(c)] and can't receive offer sheets. Brock Boeser and Charlie McAvoy are both in that same bucket of not being eligible for offer sheets.

What would you want from the Wild for Gusev? I’m sure they’d have to retain some salary or take a cap dump

no need we only need to make a few minor adjustments to be compliant. Vegas can sign him for very little for one yr. Next year they will have lots of cap space to sign him long term as a UFA if he does well

If you honestly think he'll take 1.2, you're insane. He'd turn around and sign in the KHL immediately

Its for 1 yr enough to prove himself to make big bucks as a UFA next yr. He won't make any more in the KHL with a 9m team salary cap.

Look at the contracts Dadonov and Radulov got out of the KHL. 1.2 is a slap in the face and he will go back to Russia.

The KHL did not have a hard salary cap back then, they do now of 9m. To put this in perspective his contract with SKA was 900k.
He will be making slightly more here with this and a chance to prove himself on NHL ice to land a huge contract next year.
If he went back for less money he would not have the opportunity of making as much having never played an NHL game

The guy put up 82 points in 62 games over in the KHL last year. He doesn't need to prove himself.

If Vegas screws up with a second Russian in a row (Shipachyov), I don't see anyone ever wanting to leave the KHL for them.

He has never played on NHL ice, If he puts up 95pts for Vegas next year he can command a 8yrs 10m or 11m deal a lot more money long term than he would ever see otherwise. Vegas will have its core locked up with about 14-15m in cap space next year

See the thing is we’ve waited 3 years on Gusev now, I’m not sure anything less than zucker, but to be honest that’s too much towards our cap. Maybe a Gusev, Holden and Reaves for zucker? Idk

I think we hold onto him, we will have the cap space next year to sign him long term if he becomes the real McCoy
