Whered the Soda Go

Created by: MileHighTech
Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 25, 2019
Published: Jun. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
After Soda's departure, it allows for the main forward core to be all locked for a dynasty run while also adding a high profile RFA. Rantanen signing a pretty team-friendly contract allows for shelling out on the Breadman, as well as going for that last FA to add depth to the roster. Replace Zucc with any mid to upper tier RFA winger in the 3-4 million range; because who knows who they are actually targeting. Kerfoot signs with a slight over-pay in exchange for longer term, while Compher goes for a cheaper bridge deal. 12th and 13th forwards will likely be guys from the farm team or any PTO guys that make the final cut. Also the D-core stays completely intact, so that Sakic can trade or use Barrie as an "own rental" for the playoffs as needed then fill his spot with Byram, or re-sign Barrie and trade one of Johnson/Zadorov/Cole next off season to make room for Byram.

It is amazing that no one blinks an eye at that Rantanen contract when he is (better) as good as Marner

They don’t need to blink.. Tkachuk, Rantanen, Aho and Laine will not sign a deal before marner. Right now he is the poster boy for spoiled brat. They will let him do the dirty work and tarnish his reputation while they sit back and say... I want that...

Point, from what I here, is close to having a deal done. Is this going to affect marner? Nope. Will it affect Dubas? You bet your ass it will.

It is amazing how overrated Marner is among non-Leafs fans (who will immediately flip back to saying he sucks as soon as he signs).
He isn't good defensively, was propped up by JT in terms of production and in terms of line driving was outplayed by Zach ****ing Hyman (yes, really) and he is going to get more than a guy who has put up nearly 90 points twice?

It's the taxes mate. From a $9,600,000 deal in Colorado you'd have to pay over million bucks less than in Toronto.

The taxes argument is bull**** in general as any good accountant will make it disappear but in Toronto, you get paid in USD (so you're actually making more money)

Hes actually not bad defensively, certainly better than rantanen IMO and rantanen also get his line driven by the C so hes no better there, and im not in favor of overpaying either, neither should make 9.5+ if im being honest

And you would need to pay back jock tax and give up endorsements. Yes taxes play a part. Why do you think Duchene has a home in Tennessee? It ain’t all predators and country music. When you look at how little these players actually take home when it is all done it is not as big of a factor as most make it out to be.

It is when the contracts get so big the differences are spoken in millions.

But I get your point and agree with it.

No really. Marner is stupid overrated defensively (he got Selke votes; all from non-Leafs writers meaning they voted based on reputation alone)

Can't read the athletic posts. I've no subscription.

Also that other article was in comparison for the highest rate income in CALIFORNIA, which is one of the highest rates in US, making it a bad example.

In NHL the salaries are comparably much smaller than in NBA.

The Athletic one was the stronger of the two arguments, I just posted the other to show it was cross sport.
And you said that the affect was magnified at higher salaries

So even though it is LA wouldn't that be huge if it was real?
Also remember, the 30% bit means that Marner at 9 is bringing home 200k more than Rantanen at 9

The difference isn’t quite millions. Depending on where a players permenant residence is on a 10m salary the diffence is about 1m. Which is indeed a big chunk when you realize that a player is only bringing in 3m on a 10m salary. Endorsements do play a big part as well and allow a player to file incorporated. The one thing I do know for sure is that regardless of where the numbers are coming from I am sure that there are loopholes and players are squeezing a lot more out than just what a quick look at what honest books would look like.
