Backes will not waive for OTT unless he’s being flipped or bought out.

Exactly unless he's flipped or bought out. Backes wont waive for Ottawa.

He probably would be bought out. They are -14M to the floor and have 41/50 contracts already signed. They need to take on some money and could absorb his buyout easily.

if it's between the AHL or Ottawa, everyone picks ottawa.

Or he says F U, retires and stiffs Bruins with full cap hit for 2 years. Prov is not really a threat.

I agree. But he’d need that guarantee. Even then it might be iffy. If nobody signs him it’s the end of his career. If he’s not ready for that he may not take the chance. But Ottawa is the perfect choice. They not only can buy him out immediately, something others cannot, but they benefit from it as well.

Depends if there is a recapture penalty attached to his contract. I have heard there is, i have heard there is not. I have heard nothing concrete.

That’s why guys like Hossa and others have not officially retired and are on LTIR instead, better off for their respective teams.

nahhhh guys like Hossa haven't officially retired because they still want to get paid. If they retire, they don't get paid.

There would be a recapture, but it would be really small. it would be doing the bruins a huge favor if he retires in any way, as it definitely wouldn't be the full cap hit as you mentioned. He isn't a 35+ or anything.

His recapture penalty would be $1M a year for the next 2 years. I’m ok with him retiring.
