we sign McKegg so we can send him back down to the AHL again?
penguins get hosed on that Nieto trade. Jugs is a better player and could bring back a better return if traded.

If Bjugstad could bring back a better return, why didn't he when he was traded to the Penguins? It took him and McCann for a terrible Brassard, the same guy who commanded Cole, a highly touted goalie prospect and a 1st round pick when the Penguins acquired him from Ottawa.

FL was clearing cap space for the summer, the penguins took advantage. It was a good deal for them.
He can bring back a bigger return. He put up 9 goals for the penguins in 32 games. That's a 20 goal average. Don't tell me, teams wouldn't give up more for him.

Well obviously they didn't. The facts are right in front of you but you choose to ignore them, as usual. If he could have netted a better return, FLA would have pursued that option. It's evident there were no other takers or offers. Even if, as you assume, FLA was clearing space, a better return could have been a quality prospect, an impact draft pick or a low cost roster player with term and upside. Instead FLA got Brassard and Sheahan with blah draft picks for Bjugstad and McCann with McCann being the prize. Bjugstad also had a whopping 5 assists and since you like to reference averages, that would be a little over 10 assists, in 82 games. He has been on a downward spiral since putting up 24 goals (his only 20 goal season) 4 seasons ago. Hopefully you don't think his point total is good value in comparison to what his cap hit is. They didn't want to pay Bonino 4m, who is a better offensive player but Bjugstad is acceptable? Gimme a break.

that's the wrong way to look at it. It's like saying Pernell's value is only what NJ paid for him. But that isn't really true.
The move was made clearly to clean out some cap space. I don't even think Pernell is the player they build him up to be, but he's at least a solid number 2 guy and that should return more than what he got in return.
The penguins got Jugs at a discount due to his injury history. There is no doubt about that. That's why FL wanted to shed him for cap reasons. Even last year he missed 20 games. But lets not pretend it has anything to do with him as a player on the ice. He does have value as a player.

On the flip side look at the return. You are getting a player with the same injury history and less production.
So as much as you think this is solely a comment on Jugs, you have to also realize that it's a comparison the the player that is coming back.
People would give up a 2nd round pick for Jugs.I have offered it up on here and people overwhelmingly have said it's fair.
No one is giving up a second round pick for nieto currently.
