The Luongo Factor Read Description

Created by: GMBB
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2019
Published: Jun. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Canucks now have 3 Retained Salary slots available. To be used on Sutter, Eriksson and whoever else. Maybe Baertschi or Tanev.

Bold prediction on Nils Hoglander making the team out of camp. No reason the Canucks shouldn't give the guy a look. That happens then they look for partners for Leivo or Goldobin.

Not sure the value of Haag and Ho-Sang. Also I think that Marleau deal makes so much sense all around Canucks and Canes. Cap wise saves Carolina 2 million in space this year. Canucks Could retain about 500k on it if it makes them feel better for the following year.
Also have no idea on the Tanev + Hutton + Goldy for Kap and Zaitzev but value seems to be there.

Keeping Zaitsev and Kapanen makes way more sense than paying half of Zaitsev's salary and losing Kapanen for hopefully 1 year of Tanev and Hutton who doesn't matter.

Counter, Zaitsev and Bracco for Tanev and a 3rd.

Kapanen stays in Leafs, extension is mostly done

Tanev is injured too often imo
I want Tryamkin and cap space for Zaitsev I think

Still an easy no from Toronto. They're pretty high internally on Bracco, which is why he wasn't in a Marleau deal when he was asked for. Leafs would be lucky to get 55 games outta Tanev which isn't worth it.

That's probably the price that Vancouver will be asking for but I doubt they get it with Tanev's injury history and declining play

If the Leafs keep Kapanen, why do we need Bracco? He's 23 turning 24 and hasn't played a game in the NHL, if the Leafs can't make room for him, they have to move him and his value is likely at an all time high.

Kapanen can play both wings and up and down the lineup. Could always transition him to a LW and when injuries happen Bracco can be the guy on a cheap deal to fill in.. every team needs those kinds players

He has played RW exclusively in the NHL. Most fans get too attached to depth guys and over value them. Bracco is a talented player and I'd keep him, but only if I can put him in a 3rd line offensive role. Which he isn't getting this season in TO. Unless they move one of Nylander, Marner or Kapanen. I think you'd agree that all of those guys are more valuable than Bracco and probably better players all around. Out of all 4, the one I'd trade is Kapanen. He's got a high value right now, especially with his contract and can be used to bring in a defenceman.

My guess is that is the plan. Start the year with a young defence and if it doesn't work and Kap has a hot start, you trade him for defence.

You completely overlooked what I said. I said Kapanen has the ability to play LW, the could transition him over to make room for Bracco. & if they don't, the could use Bracco as an injury replacement which they'll need. I agree he's the most likely to go. But until they get some depth in the system, they really can't afford to lose him right now

Not one of the 31 NHL teams will ever get Tryamkin out of Vancouver unless They get a Bonified top 6 winger (Ehlers, Nylander etc) in return. Not for a Mediocre D man like Zaitsev this includes other 5/6 Dmen.

Even with half his salary retained for this year?

Tanev is too injury prone to really risk giving up anything significant long term for. You'd be lucky to get a 2nd and a decent prospect, but Leafs have seemed to make it pretty clear they won't include Bracco

You missed what I said, Kapanen has not played LW in the NHL. He's a right winger and has only played that position.

I read it. & you're wrong. He has very limited time at LW beside Matthews and Nylander, but he has played it briefly. & as I said, he played it a lot in the AHL so he's familiar with it. & again, if injuries happen and they trade Bracco, they have no depth. It's not smart to move him right now.

Engval, Petan, Marchment, Yorshkov, Carcone etc they have other players that can jump in. Bracco is great on the PP and offensively but he needs to improve his defence.

none of those players would fill in in the top 6 if someone gets hurt.. which is where offence is needed.

But Bracco is going to slide in and be a force? Come on man, he hasn't played a single NHL game. You are building a statue for a kid that has had 1 good AHL season.

Lol.. take your own advice. Bracco hasn't played in the NHL, yes that's correct. But neither have any of Engvall, Marchment, Korshkov, or Carcone & Petan has played a limited amount of time in the NHL. So based on all of their AHL numbers and play, Bracco is by far the best option for an injury replacement in the top 6

& has a track record of improving at every level he's played at.. shows he knows how to adjust to the new leagues and still produce.

I am not so sure, there are a lot of guys that were okay in their draft year and then exploded as overagers, only to struggle in the minors for a couple years and then become big minor league scorers. He's a PP specialist who needs to improve a lot of areas of his game. This is definitely a fan emotions thing. The same thing happened when Kapanen had a hot start with Matthews last season, Nylander wasn't needed Kapanen might even be better, blah blah blah. Just emotional swings change the opinion of players from nothing to heros and then zeros in a matter of days.

I can't wait till next year to see Nylander light it up and then everyone on here who was calling him "Melander" and whatever else will be saying with equal conviction that he has the best contract in the entire league. At that time Marner will be a goat and we should trade him because Bracco will be as good.

Bracco will either be traded in a package for defensive help or he'll get called up and not be half as good as what fans want him to be and then he'll be a piece of garbage. Its all stupid, emotional and just plane silly.

Lol. Look at Bracco's stats. He's been a point per game at every level he's played at, and he's improved every year.. those kinda players don't grow on trees. He has a spot in Toronto cause they'll need young guys on ELC's to step up. He may struggle in his first call up, many guys do. But Bracco has a track record that once he gets time, he adjusts and proves to produce.

Every single fan base has an element of the fans who see guys like Bracco and build them up to being future stars. The fact of the matter is, very few players become stars. Most fizzle out or do well enough to become valuable to other teams. If GM's agreed with you, I am sure the Leafs could move him for defensive help, they haven't and from what the rumours say, no one really even mentions Bracco. Why is that I wonder? Its because he has massive holes in his games, he's not overly effective at 5v5 and he struggles in his own zone. On top of that, he's 22 turning 23 and still is yet to play a single game in the NHL. I do think he'll eventually make the NHL and I think he'll be a similar player to Sam Gagner in that he'll be a really good PP guy but not overly good at anything else.

In TO he doesn't have a spot on the team unless a RW is moved and even then, I'd wager he'd still struggle unless he gets ample PP time which he won't with the other guys who are ahead of him.

Lol. He was mentioned numerous times in the asking price to move Marleau, Leafs were there ones that said no. Lol.

I missed that then, and to be honest, I think I would have had the same mind Dubas had on that. I think you can get something better for Bracco then unloading a bad contract. I think he can be moved to get defensive help. Or keep him and move Kapanen.

Its not that I don't like Bracco, its that I just think we need to settle down on the whole, "Bracco's an absolute stud". He isn't otherwise he'd be in the NHL already.

I never called him a stud. I said he's a valuable piece right now that they shouldn't trade. Big difference

Who do they move to make room for him? Other guys that were drafted will soon be looking to make a mark in the AHL, what happens then? Bracco will need a shot within the next year or two or he'll just want to leave. Either we make room for him, or we trade him and unless we can get a great deal for a defenceman by trading Kap, Bracco has no place on the team in that time frame.
