The Recapture Penalty Could Have Been Avoided

Created by: nuxfan
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2019
Published: Jun. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Instead of Luongo retiring Florida should have traded him back to Vancouver where the Canucks would put him on LTIR which means that both teams would avoid the recapture penalty. Schaller could go back the other way and if Florida wanted they could waive or flip him and it would cost them less than the recapture penalty while being 2 years shorter.

Just curious, why couldn't Florida just put him on their LTIR then?

    Because he is not injured.

Supposedly they were pushing him to retire instead of LTIR. Don't think LTIR would benefit Florida as much as it does Vancouver when compared to the recapture penalty.

He had hip issues and considering he played 19 seasons you could easily find something from along the way that a doctor would qualify as LTIR worthy.

I think Mtl could do the same with Price and Weber some day. LMAO. If he is injured and play golf and surfing and put this on instagram. Ouf.
