hate to burst your bubble, but edmonton would match that and trade him on that contract later, they will get compensation for Puljujarvi.

he isnt worth that, but points agent is looking at huberdau and nylanders deals and saying thats a base for what they want.

BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA. No. no.

no. no. no. he is not. if it wasn't a tax free market he would probably be looking for 8x11, but they might get away with 8x9

didn't huberdeau sign his deal after a 15 goal season? point just scored 41.

Point is the best of all the RFA's this offseason. If it wasn't for Tampas BS tax advantage he would be signing for more than Marner, Rantanner, Laine, Tkatchuk, Aho, everyone. He's the best of them all.

then they should trade his rights but the way things sound now, puljujarvi just wants out and if they can find a way to make edmonton not match without overpaying puljujarvi a team will do it. but in this case, you are likely right; edmonton will surely match 1.25 for a promising young winger but it's very possible they don't as well

i wouldn't say he's the best (probably equal to marner respectfully) but he's a very good one. kucherov definitely helped him be the goal scoring threat he was all season long but point is the complete center so i get why you'd say he's the best but you can argue aho is up there since he played with much worse linemates than kucherov and still had an outstanding year with carolina and surely he just continues to improve

He's not worth 7.5???? Then why is Marner able to ask for 11? If he's not worth 7.5, Marner isn't worth 6.5

8x8 is the most. I don't think he goes over Stamkos' AAV

Either way the offer you signed him to there is the most team friendly, ripping off of a player offer in NHL history.

If Point signs that $hit, then Marner signs for 8X8 at most. Wake up.

i think we've already seen that in nikita kucherov but i do understand what you're saying. yeah it's a lowball and he's going to sign somewhere between 8 and 9 honestly but idk i'm not someone in the FO so this contract is up in the air. Last I've heard it's around 8.5x5 so we will see what happens come this weekend

You're still over the cap even at 8x8 and still play in a heavily taxed market. It's not the same and that will never happen

To be fair they are not the only team with that advantage. The Canadian teams have the advantage of the players making American money and spending it in Canada

He went from 40, to 60 to 90 points. half of his goals this year came on PP. his shot percent went from 14.8, 14.7 to 21.5. i would argue this was the outlier year in goals scored. Helps playing with kucherov and stamkos as your wingers too.

gotta admit you're right. Kucherov on your wing at all times plus Stamkos on the powerplay helps your PPG a lot but he's still a complete center. He does a lot of the little things right in the neutral zone and in front of our own goal so whatever he gets paid he deserves it

all im saying is that if he wasnt on a top line with kucherov who put up 128 points himself. does point get 70 points? does he get 60? cant overpay because of the guys on the ice with him.

i completely get what you're saying. thats why i think it ends up being 8 but that's also from a biased point of view and is what i'm hoping for so i'll get why if he gets paid more because he is a very good player in his own right.

hey, it could happen, tampa always seems to get guys cheaper than we expect, but to expect him to get less than stamkos...I think that's a stretch for the following reasons.
1. when stamkos signed, the cap was 71, now it's 81.5
2. stamkos was coming off a 64 point season. Nothing special. the year before that he had 72. The year before that he missed half the year. He hadn't put up a 90 point season in 5 years. point just had 90.
3. The league has changed, and the RFA's are getting paid paid paid.

I think 8.5 is a solid number for a 5 year deal maybe, but if he's getting max term, he's worth 11, and he'll probably get 9.5

The report I saw on twitter said it's going to be exactly what you just called out. 8.5x5. Of course I'd love him to go long term and sign like 9x8 and really if the cap went up that extra million to 82.5 i think we would sign him for an 8 year deal but we've got so many questionable contracts in tampa it's hard to lock him up so I can agree with an 8.5x5.

And don't forget the endorsement money players get in markets like Toronto. The tax argument is over exaggerated to say the least
