Minor Re-Tool

Created by: johnnyu22
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 27, 2019
Published: Jun. 27, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Add Brassard for cheap after a down year to provide an interchangeable 2C/3C option with him and Little. Clear cap with Perreault and Kulikov. Trade Roslovic, Copp, and a pick for Anderson, which helps Columbus retool after moving assets at last years deadline and gives Winnipeg flexibility up front. Chariot, Lindholm resigned for depth, McQuaid added for depth and toughness. Thoughts?

I take it not a fan of the Perreault trade? It was actually my mistake, the 3rd should have been from Winnipeg not to Winnipeg.

No offense bro, but these trades are just not good enough. Anderson just scored 27 goals and is worth much more than a 3rd line RFA and Roslovic, who hasn't proved anything so far. & no team is ever going to take 4.333 mil just to upgrade a 7th to a 6th. It just doesn't work that way.

You’d think you can get some more for roso and copp?

Jackets are going to need depth center, and Roslovic is a Columbus native who they are incredibly high on. In fact, Roslovic for Anderson was close to happening at the trade deadline straight up. Adding in Copp, coming off of back to back 25+ point seasons playing fourth line, and a draft pick would be a great trade for Columbus.

Florida has a need for defenseman and would have no problem taking a serviceable D for 4 Mill for one season, especially if they are going to gear up and land other UFAs (panarin, bobrovsky, etc.)

Roslovics offensive upside alone is projected to be much higher than Andersons, but I dont see a clear position for him to move up the lineup in Winnipeg. Copp is good but will also be stuck in a fourth line role. This trade adds a big tough player in Anderson and could provide a fresh look for all players involved.

You should probably add about 2 mill to both Liane and Conners AAV

Hmm, don't know about that. Think you should check your sources man. Copp has a 3rd-4th line ceiling. Anderson is worth more than what you've posted, plain and simple. Pretty sure anyone will tell you that.

Florida is trying to shed salary, not add some. Marleau just got dumped and it took a 1st to get it done. Look at the market.

Upside holds no value compared to Andersons actual play. Jets are in a tough spot, budget team with a terrible contract on Little. Move Little and you can probably keep all those other pieces you moved and sign both Laine and Conner

Completely different situation. Marleau needed to go to relieve Cap for Marner/Johnsson/Kapanen, and is 39 years old making almost 7 million. Of course it would take a lot to move him. Florida is not trying to shed cap, plain and simple. They are trying to land pricey free agents and gear up a playoff team to play for Quenville. And of course Copp is a 3-4th liner, no one suggested otherwise. But rest assured Roslovic has more long-term value than Anderson, and with one year left before a pay-day, Columbus, who have to completely rebuild, will likely take two good players, one of whom has a very high potential, in order to save money in the long term and retool.

I dont understand the talk of Littles contract being bad. Hes had over 40 points in 6 consecutive seasons playing 2nd/3rd line. The market for 2-way centers who can score at that rate is incredibly high (Kevin Hayes just signed for OVER 7 million and has similar year over year numbers to Little, if not slightly worse.) They are in a tough spot that can easily be fixed because they have NO cap-draining players who provide little value, other than perhaps Kulikov, who is a decent 5-6 D in his own right.

Hayes is a terrible contract, Fletcher well over payed on that and absolutely will not work out. Little is a 3 C nothing more, 40 pts is 4 mill on the high paid end

I think 5 million is fair for a 40-50 point center, especially considering he has proven to be incredibly durable (more bang for the buck) not having missed a game in the past two seasons. Similarly, the Jets aren't a free-agent destination, so upgrading the 2C position through signing a big name isn't gonna happen. Instead of dumping him for prospects and picks, it makes more sense to keep him around and create a competition of sorts between Little and Brassard for 2C/Powerplay minutes. Perhaps both would see an uptick in production, especially considering, in this scenario, both would be playing with excellent wingers regardless of their spot in the lineup.

Okay fair.. but roso I think should be traded for team needs like a LHD and for copp I personally think he has a better shot at C2 than little but if anything it would be a 1 for 1 trade..

Yes Florida is looking to shed salary lol. Those big name FA cost money. Why do you think they're trying to move Reimer..? Dude, NO ONE is going to take 4.333 mil in salary to upgrade a 7th to a 6th. You can't dump salary for nothing, it does not work like that. Show me one trade where a salary was dumped for a 6th round pick.. Doesn't exist. You're also way too high on Roslovic. Guy is looking like a bust, may be a good 3rd liner but damn, if you think Columbus would trade Anderson for him you're crazy. Gotta give something to get something. Teams don't risk established 27 goal scorers for maybes and low picks. Do a little research.

I just happen to know, for a fact, that Anderson for Roslovic was close to being approved straight up at the deadline. Anderson had a brutal playoff, which certainly didn't help his stock, after a career year. I can guarantee you that for more reason than one, columbus would go for this trade. Agree to disagree, but getting center depth with offensive touch and a big skilled center in roslovic who is RFA protected for longer than Anderson would be enticing.

its a good thing you aren't a GM then. Skinner was a UFA, he needed to be overpaid to keep him there. He definitely doesn't set the market for a player like Connor. Also, factor in that Connor has played almost exclusively with Scheifele and Wheeler. Anyone who plays with two allstars is bound to overperform. Don't get me wrong, I think he is good, but his immediate comparable is far closer to Ehlers money than it is to Skinner money. Laine, on the other hand, will likely sign a short term bridge, because after the year he had, i doubt winnipeg would offer him much more than 8-8.5
