Why would the other teams make any of those trades?

The Zucker Trade is fair and so is the Ottawa Trade...I agree that the trade with LA looks a bit shady but the more I do ACGM’s the more I realize it’s going to be real hard to dump Gudbranson for anything. The Johnson/Rust Trade has been brought up on twitter quite a few times in the past few days.

When I think of Jordie Benn and Jeff Carter speed and skill is always comes to mind. Definitely not old, slow, and washed up.

As a pens fan, I don't see Gudbranson as a realistic dump at this point. Look at how Schultz was written off until he played a season or 2 with the Pens. Hold on to Gudbranson for now and see if he can play this year the way he finished last year after the trade. Next thing you know, he's worth quite a lot more and Rutherford looks like a genius...... or not grin

Jeff Carter certainly isn’t but Jordie Benn could easily be Ian Cole 2.0 imo

Yeah I agree...he’s honestly so hard to try and trade on here so just let him play third pair mins next season and have Riikola there as a safety net whenever he goes through bad stretches because trust me there’s gonna be a time where he comes back down to earth and platows a bit and it’s probably not gonna be good

Pens already have enough bottom pair physical dmen. Don't need more.

Here’s the thing though man in this scenario they do not. I legitimately believe they’ll get rid of Johnson but I see no way they can get rid of both him and Gudbranson in the same offseason. Pettersson would be perfect for Gudbranson in that scenario because of how defensively responsible he is. We also know some of Justin Schultz’s best hockey has come while playing with a defensive defenseman who can also move the puck up the ice. Benn’s style of play would allow Schultz to take more risks and be more involved in the offense.

All that would happen is that Jordie Benn would get too much for too long and the pens would end up with a bad contract again.

Ottawa is rebuilding. They wont take on Jack Johnson for 4 years just to get a useful, but overpaid bottom 6 player

Who would you suggest they replace Johnson with then? Someone like Ben Hutton?

The most likely scenario is they keep him. But for the fun of this website I would say the best replacement for Johnson would be someone aquired through a separate trade.

Rust can play top 6 easily. Matter of fact he has seen alot of time with Crosby. He just gets bumped when the Pens are healthy.
