Marner takes less if he doesnt get an offersheet

Created by: Hedman4Norris

Description
I have a feeling this marner side show Is about to come to an end soon. Kap and mango got pretty sweet deals and the pressure is on marner agent to sign a reasonable deal now. Dubas will make moves to help his club especially on defense. Marner's agent is praying for an offer sheet it's the only way to get leverage back in the negotiations, there won't be another stand off till December, marner will either sign a reasonable deal, get traded for a wicked Dman ,or offersheet (least likely) for an overpayment and the leafs trade those acquired picks for pieces to push for the playoffs and potentially win a round or 2 who knows but alot of factors have to come into play since that is so far ahead

Oh I'm aware of cap hell, but that's 5 years from now problem. If they can't win a cup or go super deep in the playoffs with this core in that time frame I'd imagine there would be some changes so yeah they are on the clock.

Bruins fan here - This doesn't seem that complicated to me... Trade Nylander for D. What am I missing?

Doesn't really matter if all three are due in five years. They will be free agents the math says you're chance of sign a UFA including your own is one on thirty two. If the Leafs are contenders that will be Leafs till June 2024. If not they might be traded by the TDL 2024. If they are unsigned as UFAs...well that's 28m to spend on other players. No problem that's the nature of contracts and free agency.

Thanks. No every doesgrin Interesting many FANatics bath in the glory in the signing a UFA....that's perfectly acceptable. But when one of their own UFAs sign with another team, it's like ripping a child from their mother.

It's emotional attachment to the players. Which is understandable but the players don't give a **** which why should they, it's a business about money once people realize that, it'll be more about winning than who is on your team that wins for you.

The problem is the $6.9M salary, he is good, but $6.9M good?
Kadri & Zaitsev also need to be moved, but they also are overpaid.

Just like the Jackets' Dubinsky and Wennberg problem.
Both are good players, in their own way, but OVERPAID.
Dubi on leadership, grit, faceoffs and D zone coverage (but not scoring or passing)
Wennberg on sound D zone coverage and passing (but not scoring or faceoffs)

I don't think Nylander is that overpaid. Maybe a little and he had a rough go of it coming back. Zaitsev is a different story. Sandin and Rosen seem like they could be good enough where you could package Nylander and Lilligren and land a top pairing guy.

Ristolainen would be a guy they should target. He has had a couple rough years, but A) it's Buffalo B) I think Hedman is a decent comp. & he had some serious struggles his 1st 4-5 years.
