Remaining Gaps after Burakovsky

Created by: tp47
Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 28, 2019
Published: Jun. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming Compher/Kerfoot/Burakovsky will come in at similar or lower contracts to Kapanen and Johnsson.

Questions:
1. Who does COL bring in to fill out forwards? Do they get one of Nyquist, Lee, Dzingel, Pavelski, Zucc, Perry?
2. Could Burakovsky work on the top line, to let Landeskog help a weaker 2nd line?
3. Do Kaut, O'Connor, or Bowers get time?
4. Does Byram get a contract? I think he might due to Johnson/Cole injuries.

They might try to shake things up a little bit to improve their depth. But I think it will be like the Bruins, who were dealing with the same thing and moved Pastrnak to the 2nd line for a while. In the end you'll just go with your dominant line and hopefully some guys will rise when it's necessary. BTW I hope they don't go after a guy like Dzingel. Sure he had quite some points this year but played with Stone and Duchene at OTT and was also playing on the Duchene line at CBJ. UFA's are often overpaid, but I'm afraid Dzingel will turn out to be a massive overpayment

I think anyone who gets him is going to be overpaying as well, gonna be paying for a solid 2nd line center and what you will get is a fringe 2nd line wing/3rd line center.

1) I like Pavelski on the Marleau TOR contract. Maybe 2 years instead of 3 at 6M though. I think he'd be great for the 2nd line. FWIW Duchene as 2C would look real good. I don't really like Panarin at 11M+. I think most he should get is 10M but obviously there's sucker teams out there. Hope its not the Avs. Better to split that money between Duchene/Pavelski.

2) It could work, but I'd keep one of the best lines in hockey together until it doesn't work.

3) I'd say no at this point simply because the top 9 is stacked and those guys are skilled players. Either give them top 9 minutes or play them top minutes in the AHL. All are waiver exempt I think so I'd keep them there for another season or so.

4) Byram definitely gets a contract, hopefully we can spread his 9 games for 2 months. I'd rotate him with Timmins/Graves/Connauton on the 3rd pair until EJ or Cole come back

Yeah I know. I guess I wasn't really clear. Often teams overpay UFA's. What I meant was that Dzingel had a good season, but he played together with Stone (one of the best two-way players in the league) and Duchene (great center). I'm think they elevated his stats and make him look like a better player than he actually is. He's probably looking for a premium payment based on last seasons numbers and I think he'll be able to match those numbers when he's not exposed to great players. And I'm afraid his looking for 6+M, way too high IMO

I WOULD LIKE ANDERS LEE AT AROUND 3-4 YEARS AND 7.5-8MILLION!

Sorry about the caps but I thought it was funny and to just roll with it.... lol
Seriously Lee > Pavelski
