Lol. Lou Lamoriello offer sheet? ... nah. Let's look at some things here:

1) Lou is a "team first" kinda guy that has never been willing to pay big time money for a player, why would he break that and throw away picks?
2) Lou is an old school GM that respects the unwritten codes of the game, why would he break that?
3) Some of Marner's main reported issues were that he didn't get the performances bonuses or playing time when he signed his ELC.. Lou signed him to that
4) the Islanders barely have an arena to play in and are most likely losing their 2 of their most valuable players (Lee and Lehner)
5) Toronto has $12,240,301M in cap space, enough to match this.
6) any offersheet Toronto doesn't match, likely comes at the expense of 4 unprotected 1st round picks. Is Marner really worth that to a fringe playoff team?

... so after all that, please try to convince anyone why this situation makes sense. I'll be enlightened.

That 'fringe playoff team" embarrassed the leafs twice in the regular season, finished with more points, and at least won a round in the playoffs. Until the leafs get results, fans have no bragging rights against the Islanders. From what I remember , you guys had one of the best odds to win the cup last summer - but you can't win without a good defense. The leafs are about lose Gardiner (despite the entire fanbase ****ting on him, he's been one of your best defenseman) and you're left with Muzzin (with 1 yr left) and reilly as your only legitimate top 4 Dmen. Add to that you one of the most overrated coaches in the league ( if Babcock isn't coaching team Canada or have a nick lidstrom on his defense he can't succeed), it's not looking too good in Toronto. If Marner re-signs at 11 mill, that puts the leafs into cap hell, and Dubas willl have to fill the right side of your defense with close to league minimum defenseman. Sorry, but Kadri does not get you Pesce/hamilton. If Marner signed an offer sheet, the Islanders top 6 would be lee-barzal-eberle, Beauvillier-nelson-marner with a D core consisting of toews, pulock, Pelech, Dobson, and mayfield who are all capable of being effective in a top 4 role. lol fringe playoff team

Who mentioned anything about the Leafs success last season? If you think the Islanders are more of a lock to make playoffs this season than Toronto is, you're delusional. No one was bragging about anything. The Islanders are a fringe playoff team. They have very little goal scoring and we're heavily reliant on goaltending. As I said, Lee and Lehner are most likely gone. So have fun making playoffs with inconsistent Thomas Greiss as your #1 goalie I guess.. that team is a fringe playoff team. And that's not an insult like the apparent way you took it.

Both goaltenders put up those numbers because of the system Barry Trotz implemented and how he utilized the personnel on defense. Lehners numbers were basically identical to Greiss. That being said, I believe both teams with make the playoffs, but it's even a little pre mature to say that the leafs are a lock to do better than the Islanders next season. The leafs defense as of right now would be something like reilly-dermott, muzzin-zaitsev. So have fun making the playoffs with that defense I guess. That reminds of the late 2000's islanders teams.

Lol. They just did and only had Muzzin for half a season. Good try though.
