I figure this is the best place to put this question, at least to start with. When Leaf fans are trying to argue that Marner should get less because he played with Tavares, why are no Leafs fans taking into account that Matthews also benefitted for JT being on the Leafs, even if it was less directly? While I don't have the exact numbers of what line and which d pairing was matched against which opposing forward line (if anyone has an accurate non-pay wall site for that please let me know), based on what I saw when I did watch the Leafs (they are the local broadcast in my area so I saw a decent amount) it seemed like the opposing team was matching against the JT line mainly, and Matthews was getting the secondary assignments from the opposition.
This isn't an argument saying Marner should get Matthews money, but can the whole 'well Marner played with a good C' thing be mitigated, at least partially, by the argument that Matthews was playing behind a good C?
