Keeping Fleury

Description
I must admit I'd probably trade Fleury myself (perhaps to Calgary for a not-elite prospect upgrade eg. Shinkaruk + one of Poirier, Klimchuk or Andersson) but the case for not trading him is pretty strong:

1. 'Next big thing' young goalies have a long history of failing in the NHL after a hot start

2. Fleury is a reliable top-10 (if not better) goalie and his play is still apparently improving.

3. He's experienced and popular within the team. Why trade a core player from a team that just won the cup?

4. We don't really need to trade him - the cap is OK and there is still plenty of time to figure things out before an expansion draft. Even, worst case scenario, if we have a good crack at the cup next year with a goalie tandem then lose him at the expansion draft, the missed prospects/picks aren't franchise-breakers - this is still a cup winning team with loads of young players.

5. Keeping the roster intact works because there are many young roster players who'll likely continue to improve within a stable environment: Murray, Dumoulin, Maatta, Schultz, Sheary, Rust and Kuhnhackl.

6. The Pens also have some very good prospects who can start getting more NHL experience when injuries strike: Sundqvist, Guentzel, Sprong, Pouliot, Jarry, Wilson and maybe Simon. ie. keep things as is and leave roster space for these guys to start coming up.

7. Fleury's a great goalie who knows the Pens inside out. Unless you get a really good reward, why would you want another team using Fleury to thwart another Cup attempt next season?

That said, I'd trade him if the right deal came along, but I'm not at all worried if the Pens keep him and keep the roster together this offseason.
