Seems like a great deal for Buffalo. 35 Points for a 3rd round pick. NYR clearing space for a signing I guess.

Good deal for both sides if NYR signs Panarin. I hope we get Panarin.

This is the second time they've traded a 3rd for him. Glorious.

How did Vesey fetch a significantly lower return than Burakovsky, who had 25 points each of the last two seasons? GM’s confuse me.

I don't understand why you would bring a player here who has previously made it clear he doesn't want to be in Buffalo by choosing NYR over BUF.

UFA next year, 3rd for a potentially 1 year rental . Apparently, he's a buddy of Jack's so who knows. Can't see fans warming up to him either, unless he really performs.

Are the Sabres better? Maybe......chances of a 3rd rounder playing in the NHL are low so getting a confirmed 2/3 line NHL player I think is a win.

Regardless, I'm still ticked he didn't sign with Buffalo originally.

b/c NYR were desperately trying to move him, I suppose. Clearly the rangers hit the jackpot. 1st w/ Kappo and no Panarin.

I thought Vesey was decent, also people should know Buffalo relies on trades since not many want to play there or sign as free agents smile... I guess the last big splash they made was Zhitnik or whatever his name maybe wink? They had that really expensive contract maybe it was former Kings/Sharks D-man... The German guy, Ehrhoff or something I think it was wink. Mall Moulson didn't pan out for them who I remember wanting Kings to get years ago so smile. He was real friends w/ Quick even having like wives that were friends or sisters smile.

Looking back, this had to be a cap dump. Vesey is one of their only roster players making over an ELC or league minimum that they could've traded w/o eating major salary. Given that they won the Panarin sweepstakes it all makes sense. And I believe they still need to dump either Shattenkirk and/or Smith...and that'll probably require the Rangers surrender a few prospects/picks. But I'm still a little surprised that they couldn't get at least a 2nd rounder for Vesey. He did score 17G in each of the last two seasons and 16 as a rookie. He's been a pretty solid 3rd liner in NY.

They get plenty of mediocre, overpaid, has-been UFA's to sign there. Moulson, Okposo, and Pomminville just to name a few. I'd name BUF as my least desirable city to play in. Gotta be on just about every player's no-trade list.

Look at what they had to offer Skinner in order to keep him. I'm sure that he'd have a difficult time getting $9M AAV on the open market, especially for max term.

I always kinda liked Pominville but I had him back as rookie/early career in keeper league as one of my wingers... Back then he could score 30 goals in a year instead of 30+ over his final 2 for Buffalo smile. Okposo had that monster year then walked away much like Tavares and others... Vanek I remember when he was touted as some sorta superstar but Islanders found out even offering him lots of money he wouldn't play for them... Things didn't work out so great for him, Skinny Skinner I don't think would have found anybody to pay him 9M or more... I remember there was some running back on Buffalo Bills who had like 6 kids with 3 different women saying there wasn't anything else to do there wink.

I was never big on Lafontaine but I remember thinking trades Islanders made back then to get Turgeon, Creighton, Hogue, Thomas, maybe a few others would have made difference... I just can't see Buffalo ever winning a Cup... I remember star of season they won like 10 in a row so PHT/NBC kept pushing how great it was they televised so many of their games even though people complain... PUshing it like they would make it in playoffs, how Blues were struggling now that they got Ryan O"Reilley heh. Almost as bad as when Mets traded for like Bobby Bonilla or some crappy player only to have their pitcher in deal win World Series for I think it was Angels of all teams wink. Islanders had Tim Thomas who never played for them even Visnovsky refused... Least they managed to convince him, all teams seem to have issues at certain points... Though Buffalo was where they would trade people they didn't like in all the sports shows growing up like 1st. and Ten smile.

Still never knew what Botts saw in Vesey. Almost all his goals where lucky or he was a benefactor of his linemates. Goes to Buffalo and all offensive stats dip.
