Took less money because he loves it there. Nice to see Nashville not overpaying drastically.

For 8 Mill? I'd gave him that any day. Have fun with him Nashville!

That modified NTC the last 3 years would make me a bit nervous as a Preds fan, but this contract looks to be one of the safer big free agent signings this year, for now.

can we come back down to reality here.
MD was never an elite center, ever.
He's been a cancer everywhere he's gone.
On top of it this runs till he's 34-35 years old.

Who here really believes he pays well into his 30s? Lets be honest about it.
Does anyone want to deal with MD at 32-33 at 8 million.
He'll be 29 this year. next year on the wrong side of 30 and down hill we go. I don't see him as a guy like Crosby or Bergeron who can play well into his 30s. He didn't have their level of talent in his 20s.

So lets just call this what it is. Another bad contract in the waiting. Too long by at least 2-3 years. Which explains the NTC on those last 3 years of the contract.
Teams have to play hard ball to not get roped into these crazy deals. It's why FA is turning into a landmine zone. Year after year of high dollar too long contracts.

I like to operate at 10 points per $1,000,000 for forwards. 70 points would be $7,000,000. His career average is around 61.69739 points, which would be $6,169,739. So this contract isn't too bad. No where near as bad as Panarin or Bobrovsky.

I like this move for Predators dump 9M for Subban to sign better player for 8M when already have a decent stacked defense... He is getting less than 10% of the current cap so for his level of player its not really a bad deal... I'm not a huge fan of his, nor the team that signed him... Nashville probably will get into playoffs even if they got a gaping hole in net though wink... I knew it would be tough for him to return to Senators or stay in East after that ubber video surfaced smile.
