Cause he drives play at 5v5 and 2.5M is very fair for a decent/good 3rd liner

Too much money and too much term. This is one of those deals that actually kills you, instead of the big ones.

They let Connolly go and signed Panik

Connolly is twice the player and is only 500k more...

Low cap hit, absurd term. Classic Capitals (Hagelin, Jensen, Oshie)

Connolly twice the player? How in the world are you not laughing as you type that? Conno is a fine payer but he's not even close to a 60-70 point guy.

Some exaggeration there. It's still a head shaker on why Washington would let Connolly walk and then sign Panik to a similar deal.

The high term is how you're able to get players with a lower cap hit

2.5M is good for a player that will score you 15 goals and is pretty good defensively. He drives play but his consistency is what sucks. But the AAV is good for a player like him.

People seem to continue to forget how good GMBM is at getting rid of term he no longer wants. Term isn't an issue. He just magically waved away 2 years of Niskanen's bloated contract and got an arguably better player in return, while having them retain 30% of the contract. Again, term is not a problem here. Term won't be for Hagelin and it won't be for Panik, especially if they're performing decently and the cap goes up more (then it really won't matter, easily moved if needed).

Pretty similar players and Connolly costed 750k more not 500k. The extra 750k is the only reason they were able to also sign Hathaway with Vrana as an RFA.

Completely agree, he's only 28 years old so if needed, I don't think there will ever be a problem trading that contract.

I would've preferred we get someone like Hartman or Simmonds, since it makes our lineup more flexible. I don't like that it essentially locks in the third line, where as with another guy it allows us to rearrange things and try some more line combinations out. Not huge on it, but it's a decent move for us. Not a fan of the term though.

Matt Martin signed the same deal after a career high 10 goal 19 point season. This is NOTHING like that.

EvolvingWild's contract projections had Panik's most likely deal as 4 years and ~$4.8M AAV; Connolly will be missed, but this is a great signing (plus the third line is now the H.EL.P line so that's fun)

Yet Dubas surrounds Matthews with small "skilled" players, who'll run and hide from those annoying tough mean players.

The secret to playoff success is not what Dubas is planning to build. His draft picks are pathetic, is he still believing he's the Greyhounds Jr. League GM>?

He’s talking out of his asz so a laugh technically is a fart? Connolly is a product of Washington Panik is a great add for the caps. When he scores 40 points this will be an amazing deal. Remember everyone laughed at the caps for Carlson Wilson Kuzy and orlov signings too ..... people on this site aren’t smart normally
