Not as bad as it could have been, but still not worth it.

Well, at least its only somewhat buyout proof. Has a full NMC most years, a LNTC the last

Solid signing. About what everyone thought he'd go for and the term isn't terrible

Edit: Deal structure is a little wack

Better than originally thought, but it's still a terrible deal.

It's structured so it's virtually buyout proof.

I wouldn't pay Myers more than 1.5M to play for my team if I was a GM

Nearly unmovable, buyout proof and probably has an NMC. One of the worst FA signings in the last 10 years, book it.

It's not too bad, but still an overpayment.

Saving grace of this contract, no NMC/NTC. Definite overpayment.

Almost all UFA contracts are overpayments. That's why so many fail. It's a bidding war.

This isn't that bad. Myers is a team's ideal #3 defenseman, and while the money may be a little much, they didn't overpay with term. It's a move that makes sense and drastically improves their team right now. Good on the Canucks for not drastically overpaying for a guy that plays a prime position. He's a good complement to a Quinn Hughes as well.

So I guess you would top out in the AHL if you were a GM

I suppose he gets more because he's the only right hand dman with top 4 pedigree this July. Still too much aav. I was thinking he'd top out at 5mil for a 4-5year term or 4.5ish for a 5+ year term. He's had enough time now to show his worth and I don't see him at this valuation. Was always taking a backseat to Buff and Trouba with the jets; a big dman that seems to shy away from being more physical and never figured out the offensive side of the game. Still, an improvement on the right side for the nucks.

Matching this would have hurt the Jets in a few years.

The money upfront is a mistake, Myers is not a top shelf D man.
He is good though

Seems like a slight overpayment...but then Stralman signed for 3 years at only 500k less per year.
Term is fine, this isnt a homerun, but not a wtf are you doing Benning either( ala Beagle,Schaller)

Very happy with this. Term is fine. AAV is fine. Clauses are fine. Unprotected for expansion is a nice bonus.

From a Jets perspective, this is great. Myers needed to be gone. From a Canucks perspective, well.... good luck.

My thoughts exactly. I think this deal will be bad on day one, and yet I couldn't help but think "well it coud have been way worse". The fact that there was this much room for error on this deal does tell me D are still weirdly evaluated by some GMs.

I remember a few years ago on here in Jets forum somebody explaining to me why Myers declined w/ some sorta injury/condition thing... So I wouldn't want to invest money in him personally... He just seems like is always injured/over rated but don't produce what is wanted or is on ice when needed... HE will fit in great on CAnucks having said all that wink.

That's to make him easy to move the last year. See Marleau, Patrick.
