Waiting for that bounce back I see. For the sake of the player, I hope he does.

Still hoping they land Gardiner...but those hopes are diminishing.

Shero doesn't like overpaying for UFA's though. He lost out on Shattenkirk...thankfully.

Surprised to see so many "NO" votes here. I'd love to hear the justification. Worst case: He puts up mediocre numbers and they move on next season. He's always gonna bring the physicality and competitive edge he's always brought. Very little down side here.

Yes, he will bring competitive edge and is an absolutely great guy. Love Wayne for his character, period. That said, do not expect production anywhere near a top 6. His past season was not pretty. He didn't work out in the PP specialist role with Nashville either. That last bit is troubling, as you'd like to think that element of his game should still be strong. Maybe he will bounce back there, but 5v5 he should be in your bottom 6.

He's about to turn 31, not 35, and has scored 25+ goals 4 times in the last 6 seasons. There is zero risk and they still have $20M in cap space.

He will almost def. play a 3rd line/2nd PP role in NJ. He doesn't fit in the top six w/ Hall-Nico-Palms and Bratt-Hughes-Coleman as my projected top 6. But Coleman could drop to the 3rd line, too. We'll see what happens. But the Devils should be much improved from last year.

Low risk high reward. The Devils think they're in the playoffs and also they're that much closer to inking Hall. It's certainly exciting to watch New York rivalry this coming season!

He takes lots of bad penalties. I wouldn't pay 5mil for a guy that is going to cause my team that many pp goals against. Not worth it. But ya, it's not a bad contract if you only consider the Devils cap space and the term.

It's more money for the one year than he's worth, but New Jersey can afford it and it gives them a wing upgrade for right now.

This is a great move for Simmons. Moves back to the Philly/Newark area where he does community work and gets a year to prove he's worth the risk for a team.

Moves back to the Philly/Newark area...

Philly's Newark is in Delaware, lol.

The rest of your point is well taken. Great character guy on and off the ice. Hope he is good for you NJ, but uh, not too good.

He's done, no way around it. At least it's only 1 year.
