For a one year deal that's pretty good.

I like Lehner but for some reason this doesn't sit well. Happy it's a one year, please don't move Delia Bowman.

I seriouslly doubt this affects Delia in the long term at all. I didn't think he was ready to be a full time NHL back up right now. 1 year, if anything it might sign the end to Crow next year.

Must know something about Crow unfortunately... It's a good signing, but a sad one if we read into it.

Surprised he didn't receive better offers from other teams including the isles. Maybe Lehner just wanted one year

Delia can be sent down. I'm more afraid he knows something about Crawford than trading away a goalie he just signed for 3 years $1M per.

I highly doubt Delia is getting traded and Lehner certainly isn't a backup. Either Crawford is done or getting traded or they're going to split the starts. My guess is this is a trial run. Crawford's contract is up next year and I am sure we aren't resigning him. Lehner will get his "big boy" contract next year if it works out for him in Chicago.

How could the Isles not beat this? Unless the Isles werent offering term, and Lehner said F U, and wants to prove he is worth a longer term.

Great upgrade for the Hawks.

If he wanted term, why 1 year?

If he only wanted 1 year, Isles should've offered him 1 year.

Delia's on a one way deal and waivers exempt, so his money is guaranteed, so I'm happy for him there. Hopefully he has another good year, and I see this as Chicago thinking into insurance with Crawford, if he goes down, Lehner is more than capable of taking a lot of games with Delia backing him up. This is an aggressive move by the Hawks, I like it.

Delia is not being moved, he will be exposed to Seattle in 2 years. Lankinen will be a likely starter/backup in 2 years.

I don't pretend to know Lehner's motivation. But he outplayed 10m X 7 Bobrovsky last year. If he wasn't getting substantial multi year offers, maybe he thinks a one year contract and he "stars" like he did in 2018/19, maybe he think he will get let's say 8m X 5 years next summer. With 6m Crawford in his last year, maybe Lehner thinks has a Chicago spot for him in the future.

It just sounds like he wanted out. Has nothing to do with term. CHI wanted 1 year, since that's when Crowford is up.
Crow had 3 concussions already, don't know if all of them were major ones or not, but you don't want to get a permanent brain damage, so I wouldn't be surprised if Crow will only play 20 games or so. And if he wants to get on LTIR, I would totally understand it. Most people only get 1 brain at best, so you must do what is necessary to protect it.

This was Plan B for Lehner, have another good year on a team where he will be a true #1 and parlay that into something long term. Isles gambled and lost IMHO. risky move by Lehner, who shouldve never said publicly that he was only listening to the Isles (gave away the leverage he had as an UFA).

As for the Hawks- this puts them right back into cap hell, they must have plans for Crawford (LTIR? buyout?) as paying $11 mil for goaltending on this roster is a luxury they cant afford. Crawford has zero trade value- unless they sweeten the deal to take on that contract.

Is Varlamov def. coming to NYI? if so, I'd expect him to be a little cheaper than Lehner based on last season, but we'll see.

After all that he went through in BUF and how well everything went in NYI I have to wonder his reasons for this. Weirdest signing of the day.

Okay, what Lehner said is that he wanted to re-sign (and I do believe him that he wanted to stay), and then he decided to wait and think about the offer from NYI for a few days, and when he came back to let them know, they were already working on signing Varlamov. Seriously? That sounds like bad management.

But it's one move, and Lou is one of the best GMs in NHL history IMO. I think he can help make this team better. We don't have Ottawa's management lol.

And I hope Lehner has a good year in Chicago.

I know mental illness can be difficult but I don't get Lehner... I heard he had 2 years at 5M each which he turned down... Seems odd even Bishop I don't think has a 5M cap hit... So does Lehner think he can make more than 5M on his next contract at like 7 or 10M? Is he hoping to stay UFA to allow himself to sign with Seattle in a year or whatever? In a way I can see how he goes to Chicago who is trying to retool to make playoffs/win... While a team like Islanders he would have expectations after the prior season while having to deal w/ teams vastly improved while Islanders declined if anything... Strange for sure but it will be interesting to see how he does compared to Varlamov or so smile. I think its a good move for Chicago at low risk/high reward if anything...
