I think the opposite of Kadri, I think most leafs fans are sad to see him go.

Jamie

I love most your posts but Kadri is an undisciplined 3rd liner who put up 40 points with playing top power play. We all love that he stands up for his team but he is a time bomb that Dubas had to disarm. I will not miss him.

Can’t wait to see 3rd line of Moore, kerfoot and kapanen.

I'm a little concerned that Barrie's point production will drop significantly next season assuming Rielly plays #1 PP. Barrie's clearly an offensive specialist and that fact makes this deal a little dubious had it not been for the substantial discount. Also, I think most TOR fans are glad to be rid of Kadri after the last 2 playoff series.

Reilly played LHD on the PP....a lot. Marner played RHD on the PP....a lot. Zaitsev saw little PP time hence his point production was down. So I don't know who Ceci and Barrie will fit into the PP if Marner continues to get big minutes RH point, but at least the Leafs can play a competent RHD when the opposition returns to full strength. But if Leaf want to have Barrie at RHD on the PP, that still leaves Tavares, Matthews , Nylander, Marner has four top offensive forwards on the PP....pretty good.

As a Colorado fan, I initially thought this trade was terrible, but after thinking a lot about it it does make sense. The Avs now have a surplus of defensemen, and were unlikely to sign Barrie after his contract expires this upcoming season. So at least they get something for him, and that something is what they need most: a second line center.

Kadri has a lot of problems, I think it's extremely easy for him to be thrown off his game, but when he's on his game he's a great player all over the ice. The question will be can Colorado eliminate the inconsistencies and mental problems in Kadri's game.

Toronto gets a great defensemen which they needed after Gardiner's probable departure. Kerfoot's a great top 9 guy with top 6 potential. Retaining 50% of Barries salary is a huge help for Toronto and doesn't really affect the Avs as they have tons of cap space. Maybe a slight edge for the Leafs on the trade right now, but I think eventually it'll be viewed as an even deal.

Ok, I correct it, 44 pts. But for the record, he played on the 3rd line, he played on the first power play, he has taken a suspension 2 years running for a retaliation hit during the first round.

Not sure anyone can dispute those facts.

You can disagree that he is a time bomb, which is opinion based but I do have those suspensions to back up my opinion.

And it’s definitely true that I am excited about the new 3rd line.

Pretty good indeed. I've had Barrie 2 years running in fantasy. Barrie isn't known for his defensive prowess, but I think their top 4 is probably no worse than 3rd best in the league offensively after of course SJS and maybe NSH...it's close between TOR and NSH.

Kadri might have been playing on the Leafs 3rd line, but that was because 1 and 2 are both superstars. He is an extremely good 2C making 3C money. I have been saying that any return for Kadri would be this large (and called a biased homer making emotional decisions for it). He had a down year both sh% wise, teammate wise, usage wise and everything points to a huge bounce back. The reason we lost to Boston was because we didn't have Kadri, removing him doesn't make the team better. Getting a return like this for removing him does (my contention with the time bomb bit).

Kadri was pushed down the line up. It is what it is. What he was is a first round leafs pick who came up through the system in the GTA. I think of him as a true blue leaf. Going to miss him. But it was a great trade. Same goes for Connor Brown. Just a kid living his dream playing with the leafs, and very proud to do so. We all knew he was gone but it still hurts a bit. Wish nothing but the best for both of them. Still waiting to see where gardiner lands.

I really think the Zaitsev and Kadri trades gave a the Leafs some NHL Dman stability for 2019/20, which I think was purpose of those trades Barrie and Ceci may not be around as Leafs next summer (or Muzzin)but the Leafs will figure out their defence for 2020/21 next summer. Kerfoot seems like a nice addition and can replace Kadri.
Ceci might have overworked on a poor Ottawa team. He just might be better with reduced minutes and playing with better teammates. A big opportunity for him as next summer he will be one year away from being a UFA. Leafs made the decision to accept Ceci in the trade instead of resigning Hainsey. I thought Hainsey was solid for the Leafs. So Dubas must believe Ceci has growth potential this year. Barrie's been around long enough we all sorta know what he is. But maybe he's the "Gardiner replacement"....which can be pretty good but comes with brain farts.

Dubas is now a legend... unbeleavable trade...

A legendary GM must get past the 2nd Round repeatedly, yet alone the 1st just once.

I think one of the most difficult things for a GM or scouts is to evaluate players leaving teams that are either really good or really bad. Ceci could breakout as a Leaf next season given potential exposure to top offensive players. On the other hand, a player like Zaitsev could really struggle playing on OTT's top D pairing. His weaknesses will certainly be more exposed on a team that possesses the puck a lot less and starts in the D zone a lot more. However, Ceci won't get as many offensive opportunities in TOR simply b/c of the Leafs high end talent on the back end, but the opportunities could be better. It;'s definitely complicated.

This is horrible! Great for Toronto (now completely stacked) but Colorado what r you doing??? Trade your best Dman or 1 of them and Kerfoot who had an amazing year all for A 7th Dman and a 3rd kind Center at most (IMO)

I don't get this one at all. Is Colorado complicit in some under the table deal with Toronto? How do they give them so much for so little and retain salary to help out a cap stressed leafs team? Colorado getting big money from Toronto?

I don't know Colorado gets a 30 goal scorer for 3 more years and Toronto gets 1 season of Barrie at half price right before he becomes a UFA. Toronto has only 1 defenseman signed for the 2020-21 season and they still need to sign Cici, Marner and Kerfoot.

I like this for Colorado. They have so much depth on the blueline. Barrie only has 1 year left on his contract, Kadri has 3 so COL wins long term.

Colorado could have made a push to be real Stanley Cup contenders, instead they make some depth signings and this terrible trade.

Barrie was on his way out but that 50% retaining. LOL. And then they also trade Kerfoot. They sign Donskoi because he drives possession, then trade Kerfoot who was one of the three forwards besides the top line who did the same. Doesn't make any sense unless Kerfoot asked way too much money.

Kadri as 2C makes sense though. In his prime, can score, teamfriendly contract and he can play 3rd line when Newhook is ready in a couple of years to play 2C. He is obviously an upgrade for the Avs. But I rather traded Compher or even Jost. Just look at the centerdepth in the system: Newhook (after next season), Kaut, Bowers, Kamenev. Why wait until Jost takes his next step as a centre when Newhook is probably playing top 9 after this season and Kadri plays 2C until Newhook is ready to play 2nd line.

Just another Avs deal that doesn't make sense if you want to make a push now

Two completely different takes on the same trade. So interesting. If fans from both teams are somewhat satisfied, it's a good trade. I think Leafs were able to get Avs to retain 50% as it was only for 1 year, and they were getting Naz for 3 at a great price. He is a 6M player easily.

Resigning Ceci, Marner and Kerfoot is going to be possible with over 17 mil in cap space. Not to mention another 1.5 mill saved when 2 league min guys aren't part of the 23 man final roster.

Lastly, Dubas isn't done with his off-season moves so it's entirely possible we have something interesting on the cards again!

I really don't care who gets the better deal I saw a lot of posts that said Colorado got fleeced and posted my view. Your right Dubas probably isn't done but I wasn't commenting on Dubas or the entire offseason. My comment was on this trade and this trade alone. Since this is the page to discuss this trade. If Toronto wins the cup this year or resigns Barrie then I think they can say they got the better part of the trade if not then Colorado got the better part of the trade.

Where are all those people who said Dubas is a bad GM? I'd love to hear their takes on this one

I stand where i was, trade is in our favour, but very tough to swallow cause it could end in rental of Barrie or similar for Kerfoot.

For how much will be Barrie re-signed ? If he will be at all

How will Kerfoots contract look like ? Can it pass 2020 /2021 Cap ?

Will Ceci be flipped ? Cause hes not Zaitsev upgrade....

Actually it feels like rushing the bad contracts out without caring what comes in 2020 / 2021.

He dumped Marleau contracts for the price of 1st......could do better

Zaitsev for Ceci was neutral swap where years of Zaitsev contract were dumped....play wise i like Zaitsev more, regardles of all corsis and other things on the paper...he got 3rd for Brown which is what most of us were doing here.

Three years of Kadri for retained rental and still to squeeze into Cap Kerfoot....i dont know, i hoped Kadri can bring in long-term D or rental of Hamonic which would be 4.7M for resigning and not 8M

And as Pharrow said....90% of our players are now under 6'0''. Skill over size ? screw it, you can flip-flap that puck with your skills as much as you want if some clumsy Tylers will strip you off it later even with half strenght.....

As for the thread....COL got rid of a Dman that will ask for 8M next year, got Donskoi from FA and now Kadri from TML for 3y to pair them.....if you look deeper into it, Sakic won in my eyes.

I get it from TOR side but why would Sakic do this without real compensation? Take Kerfoot away and it seems reasonable but now Dubas made it look like he's the one doing the favor, not Sakic...

Center. He was solid on the 3rd line.

How good is Barrie's offense?

The guy has 116 points in his last 146 games ... that's 65 points per 82 games.

Is he just passing it up to MacKinnon / Rantanen and getting secondary assists ... or does he have a high-end / noticeable offensive game?

Toronto get Kerfoot too ... he's 24 and will sign for less than Kadri ... and got as many points as Kadri this year.

Bruh!!! fiddy cent!! lol
okay totally serious here... how did Dubas manage to get 50% retention on Barrie? i was slightly sad seeing Rosen traded but heard of the 50% a few minutes later and... WOW. just WOW!
I'm okay with bridging Kerfoot, should be a decent enough number.
