In Dubas I Trust

Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 1, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not only did he trade away Marleau unmovable contract, but also Zaitsev's deal without retaining any salary, he got a top 6 man in return who puts up more points and is a RHD. Then he traded from a position of strength and acquired a top 4 RHD AND a third line centre who can put up points for Kadri and a bottom pairing dman, plus a draft pick. Leafs have about 18 million next year to sign Muzzin, Ceci (if they choose to), Barrie, Dermott, and Bracco. Well done sir. My only complaint so far is not having addressed the backup goaltender, other than that, A's across the board.

Hopefully I can stop defending Dubas for a bit now. He has been great for the leafs. But one last time... for old time sakes...

The leafs have two very viable backups in sparks and Hutch. There may be an upgrade made from any point from now till TDL, or maybe one takes the role and runs with it this year. Either way this is such a non problem. Backups are an easy fix.

I just don't feel all to comfortable with Andersen going down with injury and Sparks or Hutchinson taking over. I wish he could go after a Halak out of Boston for a 2nd rounder and some salary retained. I'd be happy with that.

Better looking lineup thats for sure, but I don't see those signing values, Ceci apparently agreed to 4.5 for one year? Cant see Kerfoot taking less money than Kapanen even on two years considering he put up back to back 40 point seasons. Can't see Marner taking 10 mil on 5 years considering he is asking 11+ on 5 yrs.. though 10 on 3 years may work?

I think Marner will compromise at 10.5 for 5 years; 3.2 for Kerfoot for two or three years and 4.5 for Ceci. They just make it under the cap by $50,000 or so.

Just when you thought the leafs learned their lesson about giving up on goalies.... give sparks a chance. There’s nothing to lose everything to gain. Those career backups are always up for grabs, sometimes on waivers other times for cheap trades. Lots of time to shore that up later. Let’s find out what we have first.

If Andersen goes down for a lengthy amount of time the Leafs are in trouble anyway but I do understand your concern.

Not that @Jamiepo needs back up from me but yeah, give the man some breathing room.
Oh..and while I'm at it, no more Dubareili or whatever name people were using.

Duberelli lol that was @Laudan pretty sure he is quite happy with Dubas today.

I agree that they are good options. Yet, Babcock has always had an above average backup on his team. If he needs that so that Andersen's playing time can be reduced, maybe he should get that. The Leafs could easily trade Sparks and Petan or Holl or Marincin for a good backup like Jack Campbell or Casey DeSmith.

We had the best backup in the league under Babcock... and guess what.... same old crappy back to back 2nd game start. Unless you sign a goalie better than Andersen he won’t get the games.

One thing MUST change and that is Babcock's mindset on some (or most) things regarding this team.
Cannot run Andersen into the ground before half way through the season.

I agree... some confidence would probably go a long way with sparks. Give him some easier starts once in a while.

The leafs have much bigger problems then who’s going to be in the net when the leafs are statistically proven to be losing at a much higher rate than winning.

I don’t know if sparks will be on the roster this year. There’s a 90% chance that he’s in camp though. I doubt you work on a goalie all summer not to wait and see the results.

Bloody hell....the moment i went to sleep the trade was thrown.

I stand where i am, trade is in our favour, but very tough to swallow cause it could end in rental of Barrie or similar for Kerfoot.

For how much will be Barrie re-signed ?

How will Kerfoots contract look like ?

Will Ceci be flipped ?

Actually it feels like rushing bad contracts without caring what comes in 2020 / 2021.

Ceci is not being flipped, dubas thinks he can move him down and get more out of him. Barrie may not be re signed but may not need to be. Leafs get 7m in expiring contracts to work with and a defence they can run with this year. They also get kerfoot who should be fairly cheap and who I think has a ton of potential.

I kinda like it. Ufa next year may favour us well and tons prospects moving up on rhd. Things could look really good.
