Give us Svechnikov and Pesce and you'll get Marner. The Leafs will match 11.5 million, they have the cap to do it, even if it means not signing Ceci.

No he's not, just tendered. Leafs can dump him or waive him. They have plenty of space still.

He was given a qualified offer by Ottawa at 1 year for 4.3 million. He can accept that and the leafs are stuck with it. If he elects to go to arbitration and gets more then then the leafs can walk away and he becomes a UFA. There is reports of an agreed contract of 1 year for 4.5 million but it is not official yet.

Strange that Carolina wouldn't pay Aho 8.5m unless forced by an offer sheet .and he is just as good as Marner and now to pay Marner 3m more. Seem nuts. I don't think the Leaf match 11.5m, but they take the picks instead of that trade.

Carolina can't afford both. They don't have the revenue to support that cash flow.

This was a PR move from habs I'm almost positive. Lose tavares last year then duchene. I think I said in another post I have habs season tickets and they sent out an email the other day basically begging me to upgrade seats. Swing and a miss on duchene kills them. No upgrade from last year and fans woukd be pissed. Even bergie said " I think this shows fans we want to win". They know it will be matched. They cannot be that stupid

Well it's Marner, Ceci and Kerfoot. It's about 17.7m of cap left....Kerfoot gets Kapanen/Johnson money. 3.3m, Ceci 4.5. That leaves 9.9 for Marner. Or something like that. Still might need another deal later to be cap compliant. But looking a lot better than a week ago.

Ceci. The Leafs could have just Ottawa have him if the Leafs didn't have a the intention of signing him. Leafs could've signed Hainsey for 3.5m instead. So you gotta think Dubas wants Ceci at 4.5m.
