Actually Poehling burned the 1st year of his contract when he played that one game against the leafs and is a UFA in 2 years... he won't be worth half as much as Aho by then lol

I believe by then our bad contracts (Alzner Weise, Mason retention) will be over - Weber might be retired as well and the salary cap will go up. I am not concerned at all by this. Montreal has deep pockets, Carolina made less than Aho's contract value in ticket sales last year. It's not about the salary cap, it's about the fact that the Hurricanes administration does not have the cash flow to match the offer (at least not right now). The owner is in court, facing multi-million penalties for a football club he bought but never managed.

If they match, they are endangering the financial health of the organization - unfortunately, the risks of them not matching are very real.
