NYR w Gusev

Created by: tlking
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 1, 2019
Published: Jul. 2, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Returns for Names and Strome are irrelevant really, mostly just cap dumps. Gusev is likely to be better than Kreider, at least he's cheaper and under control for more than 1 year. VGK need to get under the cap, we get Eakin to add some center depth behind Zbad. Either trade Eakin at the deadline if we can get a decent return and aren't in playoff position, or just let him walk in FA.

Swap Bowers for Kaut or Newhook and you're close.

Colorado wouldn't trade the 16th overall pick (Newhook) at the draft for Kreider. Now you want him and an additional 1st and they are close? Mind blowing.

Pretty much this. I think COL's 1st is going to end up higher than 16th this year, probably around 20-22. Bowers seems like a pretty likely target for us too, he played for David Quinn at BU, and is coming off a down year so his stock might be low enough for him to be the add w/ the pick. The big thing is the 2020 pick though. I could see us getting Kaut if there's a contract extension in place prior to the trade.

I don't have any issue with what your proposed. I think Bowers is a possibility as well. My point is if they wouldn't trade the opportunity to draft Newhook why would they trade him now plus add an additional 1st.

Yup. That's correct. That's just proper value for Kreider. 16th alone would've been a massive undersell.

Can you help me find all of these forwards that are much better than Kreider, I'm having trouble.... Seems like anything less than a top 40 prospect + 1st + would be an undersell....it doesn't matter what Colorado would do...you go to another team then. Nashville, Florida, Minnesota, etc.

Why don't you run Mark Stones numbers and compare them to Kreider. If I knew how to get that chart in this thread I would do it. Stone is superior in every single category. What was he traded for? Brannstrom, Lindberg, and a 2nd. And this was with an extension in place not for a pending UFA. Plus stone is younger.

Again charts are not the end all and be all. Many other things go into trading.

not to mention that was at the deadline when prices are higher. NYR don't have a ton of leverage in negotiations with other teams on Kreider right now... there's also not a ton of teams likely calling for him, ESPECIALLY since NYR need to shed salary with this trade and can't take a contract back.

I wouldn't love Bowers and a 1st but I wouldn't call it a bad deal. I think COL has the cap space to use for negotiating though, so I would counter with

Kreider + Smith (1mil retained) + 7th
for
Barberio + Bowers + 1st

You were the one using these charts to justify your asking price. Without analytics kreider is an average player who has never scored 30 goals. I dont believe hes average but I think you overvalue what he is. Anyone can skeee stats to support their argument.

I wasn’t the one using the charts, Sagecoll was.
